The X-Files Sequel Will Make You Believe Again
After ten years (and thirteen days) Mulder and Scully are finally back in the long awaited sequel of the first The X-Files film with The X-Files: I Want to Believe. This installment takes place six years after the season finale. Being a “monster of the week” type storyline as opposed to a mythology one, it is much different than its predecessor, as it seems to focus more on the horror genre rather than on science fiction.
Twilight Takes a Huge ‘Bite’ of Weekend Profits as it Rules the Box Office
The opening of Twilight, the film adaptation of the first book of the bestselling four-part Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer, brought in a lot more fans this weekend than anyone expected. Theaters across the country were sold out days in advance, some several weeks, to the midnight and in most cases the following evening showings of the blockbuster movie. The Summit Entertainment film raked in $70,553,000 opening weekend, much more than the initial projections. Summit has announced that the sequel, New Moon, is already in the works..Twilight On DVD
After the success of sales of previous releases of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight saga, everyone knew that the DVD release would be big, but no one suspected how big. Never has a DVD release had so much promotion – midnight parties at most store chains around the globe. Fans spent hours gathered at their favorite stores to play games, win prizes, and talk to other fans as they waited until midnight to own the film adaptation of the first book in the series. Of course that wasn’t all. Most stores were stocked with tons of new and previously sold out merchandise as well.
Star Trek Lives Up To The Hype
Star Trek fans around the world waited in anticipation for the new Star Trek installment, released last Friday. Some fans questioned it would live up to the hype. J.J. Abrams, the director, was admittedly never a Star Trek fan. He made the movie not with the fans in mind, but rather movie-goers in general. The Stargate phenomena first started on film in 1994 and then on television in 1997 with Stargate SG-1, and in 2002 was picked up by Syfy (formally Sci Fi) who made it their own and the series continued for a total of ten seasons, as well as some post series movies. The show focused on a team of a soldier, an astrophysicist, a civilian scientist, and an alien, who used a Stargate to travel to planets outside our own solar system. Towards the end of the original series, the scientists of Stargate discovered a use for the eighth chevron on the gate – to travel to Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. Thus became the spin off of Stargate: Atlantis. For years the ninth Chevron was not mentioned, until now. If activated the ninth chevron could take them far beyond that of the Pegasus Galaxy. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth installment in the Harry Potter movie series, opens where the last one left off – after the battle at the Ministry of Magic. The remaining Death Eaters are wreaking havoc and the Muggles get a taste of their deadly power when they destroy the Millennium Bridge in London and people are killed.
The Incident Will Keep You Guessing
Time travel, Egyptian symbolism, and a dead man walking - those are only a few of the themes fans are discussing after the Lost season five finale last week. As per usual, the season finale was jam-packed with plot twists and turns as well as spectacular special effects that put us on the edge of our seats and left us questioning what we actually saw. There’s more than one of everything. That was the title and pretty much summary of the season finale of Fringe on Tuesday - another you, another me, another world. Walter Bishop posited that déjà vu is a glimpse into that other world – you think you have been there before, because you actually already have – in an alternate reality, a reality slightly different from our own. After such a monumental season three finale last year that revealed the fact some of the crash victims made it off the island, as well as with the introduction of “flash forwards,” fans were left to wonder if such a finale could be topped. This year’s season led up to and filled many of the gaps between “island time” and last year’s finale scene, the finale finally answering the question plaguing fans since then, “Who is in the coffin?” (although you wont find that out until the last moments of the episode).
