Sci-Fi Vision

It's That Time Again

If you follow SciFi Vision on twitter, you may have noticed that lately we have had an increase in interviews and such. SciFi Vision has been steadily expanding as our opportunities continue to increase. What you may not know is that up until recently, almost all of what you see on this site has been put up by yours truly (regardless of who it's written by), and most interviews (almost all the Syfy ones anyway) are generally done by me. Thankfully the staff and contributors continue to grow and the help I have gotten has been immeasurable.

With growth comes change and over the next couple weeks I will be once again changing some of the layout of the site. I love the design but it's becoming a bit overcrowded and will become more so as we start to cover more and more.

This is also to make room for our new contributor/partner site that we are excited to have on board: John Keegan/Critical Myth, who will be posting reviews of all your favorite shows (more are coming). That does not mean, however, that we aren't still happy to take review submissions for the site! The more the merrier!

As the site expands, so must the staff. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the site: from posting news and press releases, to transcribing, to yes at times even doing interviews. There's only so much one girl can handle! As the site continues to cover more genres besides science fiction, we are especially looking for people who are interested in those other areas. If you are interested in any position here at SciFi Vision, please use the form, found by the hiring box on the left. If you have a site and are interested in becoming an affiliate, please let us know that as well.

And of course if you are reading this and are part of one of the shows that we cover and would like to be featured on the site, we'd love to have you. We also will be soon be accepting items for review (ie besides network screeners).

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks to see the new and improved SciFi Vision.

Site Maintenance & Updates

To make a long story short, when I first started this site I found a template that I liked and I edited it with my own art/design for my own use. However, from the beginning it has caused nothing but headaches. When you paste text from Word, formatting is completely wrong and there are a lot of steps I have to take each time to get articles formatted correctly, which is why it takes so long to get things up sometimes.

That being said, I bought Artisteer to create my own template from scratch to hopefully get rid of a lot of these issues. The reason for this post is that I am going to start testing things and messing around. I have done as much as I can on a dummy site, but when applied to this site I've noticed differences. If something is out of whack or looks strange, just realize I'm trying to fix it. If at any point the site quits working, please let me know right away. Once the change is complete I will post about it and would appreciate feedback on any problems or any suggestions you have.

Once the site change is complete, I will be able to hopefully add content faster and more often! This means that we can start taking on more interviews and content, so stay tuned!

We also want to hear from you - what kind of content would you like to see for this site?

Another Note from the Editor

During the next week or so, I will be messing with the code of the site and testing things. Please just ignore the test articles, they are just bits of stuff I've pasted together to try out things. They shouldn't show up except at the bottom in the lists. If you notice any problems with anything on the site, please let me know, as it could mean that something went wrong that I am unaware of. Thank you.

A Note From the Editor

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR:

I recently realized that a few previous articles for whatever reason had either not gotten published, or were not set to "live" on the site and were therefore not available. I decided that if I were to simply publish them under their respective dates, that because things are listed by date on the site, most visitors would never see them. I decided that the best way to present them was to post them as if they are new articles so that they show up on the front of the site. They will also will be released over a short period of time so that they will get a chance to be featured. I chose the order because two of the articles actually fit well with the start of the new episodes / seasons of these shows. Please bare with me, as they are great interviews and I don't want to see them go unread. Once I am able to find a better way to manage publication (at this point I am the only person who publishes anything on the site / manages it) with my team, things will go a lot smoother. I am currently working on finding an editor that will allow contributions so that I am not trying to manage everything on my own.

There are also some things that unfortunately do to time constraints and other commitments had to be postponed as I have been catching up on the previously mentioned articles, that are still planned for future updates, including but not limited to: a gallery including all of the photos taken during the Syfy Digital Press Tour (many previously unpublished to the site), exclusive video clips from interviews with the talent at the press event (i.e. personal videos of my own questions), and a fans look at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including photos and videos, which in the interest of interviews I have yet to have a chance to complete.

Please accept my apology for the delays as I work to make SciFi Vision a better science fiction and pop culture resource.

Changes Coming

There are a lot of changes coming to Sci Fi Vision. The first major changes coming are the edition of a new forum that will integrate much better than the current forum, as well as a link to our Fandom Access site where you will be able to download all of our previous episodes and interviews, or access them through itunes. I am also hoping to update the news categories on the site and start posting reviews for some of the television shows that this site hosts, so stay tuned. New interviews on the way for the shows White Collar, Covert Affairs, and Haven. My interview with Jasika Nicole of Fringe will be up at MediaBlvd soon as well.

(New) Site Created!

Finally the day has come. I got joomla to work for the most part, so now the new site is live. For any of you visiting for the first time, please realize that this is a new version of my old site so there isn't going to be much back news (except in concern to my own articles), so most categories are pretty empty yet but will grow as I add news. There are a few kinks yet - the forum isn't done and there are a few things I need to add, like a FAQ and more items need added to the latest photos. That and I have a published article to add yet (Sanctuary interview) and I need to make templates for each section (ie see Fringe). But since the site pretty much is complete I wanted to go ahead and make it live so everyone can start enjoying it. This way it is a lot easier to add news and organize it so I can update easily and quickly! Now all I have to do is update my journals to tell that the site is up...

Site setup is pretty self explanitory - I have grouped together all of my published articles, interviews, reviews, etc. I will also have up non-published stuff soon too (like all the recaps I right before the podcasts each week and never upload, they're coming). But for now I think all the important stuff is there. If you see any errors please let me know. For now I'm keeping the full "about" article at the top. The only other thing really I can say is that if you click the "more articles" links on the right sidebar it takes you to list view and you are better just looking at the published articles link. I'm trying to figure out how to change that as well as a few other problems I'm having.

Enjoy:)
