The Gray House, which premieres Thursday on Prime Video, is a Civil War-era drama that tells the true story of the unsung women who secretly lead a Union spy ring in Confederate Richmond and helped shape the Underground Railroad into a highly effective spy network. At the heart of it are socialite Elizabeth Van Lew (Daisy Head), her widowed mother, Eliza Van Lew (Mary-Louise Parker), a formerly enslaved woman, Mary Jane Richards (Amethyst Davis), and Richman’s most infamous courtesan, Clara Parish (Hannah James). Their efforts bring them close to the likes of the president of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis (Sam Trammell), ruthless slave trader Bully Lumpkin (Robert Knepper), and shrewd Confederate Attorney General Judah Benjamin (Rob Morrow).

Recently, Trammell, Knepper, and Morrow spoke with SciFi Vision about how they approached playing real people from history, how important costumes are to creating their characters, and more.
