Reginald the Vampire, which premieres tomorrow on Syfy, follows Reginald (Jacob Batalon), who having been turned into the undead in a world of beautiful and fit vampires, doesn’t belong. The unlikely hero still deals with human issues like crushes and bullies, discovering his undead life is just as complicated as his previous one.

The story is based on the novel series Fat Vampire by Johnny B. Truant, and according to showrunner and executive producer Harley Peyton, the world he invented creates a dichotomy that makes the show different. “[Vampires] seek a kind of perfection that's all about beauty,” he explained during a recent TCA panel. “That's where we get into issues of body‑shaming and body‑positivity, and Reginald, of course, just doesn't fit the mold…It's all about that conflict between what we think of as beauty and what we think of as sort of inner truths and the beauty inside us.”

“I think the foundation of our show is very rooted in real emotional dynamics,” executive producer Jeremiah Chechik added, saying that it deals with how we fit in and relate to others. “It's really about how, when you die, you can live better; you can become a better person, or not. Those are the real reversal of tropes that stand out.”

New on The CW this season is Family Law, a light drama that serves up office and family conflict what a healthy serving of humor. The show stars two of our favorite actors, Jewel State (Firely) and Victor Garber (Legally Blonde), and if the first two episodes are any indication, The CW just might have a hit on its hands with this Canadian import

Staite stars as Abigail Bianchi, a hotshot attorney brought low by alcoholism. After an unfortunate courtroom incident and a stint in rehab, Abby is struggling to save her career and win back her family, but the humiliations keep piling up. To retain her law license, she's forced to work for her arrogant absentee father (Garner), who abandoned her decades ago. To make matters worse, she must work alongside her half siblings, whom she's never met (Genelle Williams, Warehouse 13, and Zach Smadu, The Expanse).

On paper, Abby is a tough customer. She's abrasive, sarcastic, resentful and occasionally mean. But Staite exudes likeability, and from the moment Abby appears onscreen, viewers are rooting for her.

“Initially when I started playing this role,” Staite told SciFi Vision during a recent press panel, “I had this silly worry that she wouldn't be likable. Then, I realized in order to make her as authentic as possible, I had to throw that out the window. It didn't matter if she wasn't likable; she just had to be as authentic as possible. She uses all of these coping mechanisms - the abrasiveness, the haughtiness, the overconfidence, her sense of humor - to hide all of this hurt and this pain that she just simply doesn't feel like dealing with. That is not something she's interested in facing for a really, really long time. So, it takes her quite a journey to admit any sort of mistake, and she's only willing to do it to get her family back and get her children back. Really, that's her sole priority. Unfortunately, her addiction gets in the way of that priority, but she's a person in a lot of pain. It's incredibly hard for her to be vulnerable, to show them.”

Tonight AMC debuts it’s new series Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. The contemporary reinvention of the classic novel follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) who meets the alluring Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) who transforms him into his vampire companion. Following is their epic love story and tragic and bloody tale told via flashbacks to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) that includes the turning of fourteen-year-old girl Claudia (Bailey Bass), who is doomed to remain a child forever.

With such a rich history in the books, the performers mostly pulled from the books and Rolin Jones’ script rather than putting their own creative take on it. “For myself and my character,” star Reid told SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable, “my own spin probably came from my own interpretation of the books and Rolins’ work. So, I wasn't really trying to put any of my own spin on it. It's just how I imagined it to be, really…[It’s] so dense already, the characters, that it sort of would be a shame to try and deviate too much.”

Anderson agreed. “You will always view a character through your own lens to an extent,” he explained “and I guess with anything, it's like, do the other creative people like that, and do they want to discuss it? But you don't want to mess with this. The combination of Anne Rice’s writing and Rolins’ writing, you don't really want to touch it; you don't want to just sort of throw your own stuff in just for the sake of it.”

Tomorrow, the first of the final eight episodes of the hugely popular The Walking Dead premieres on AMC. While the main group of survivors deal with Hornsby and his men, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) heads to the Commonwealth to stop him from going after their families next. Meanwhile, members of the Commonwealth demand justice for what Pamila Milton (Laila Robins)'s son, Sebastian (Teo Rapp Olssen), has done.

Recently, in preparation for the episode, the press spoke with members of the cast about the final episodes and their thoughts about the end of the series.

SciFi Vision spoke with some of the actors about what their characters have taught them about themselves after spending so much time with them. For Ross Marquand, who plays Aaron, it’s the way his character continues to treat people. “I think, for me, [it’s] the diplomacy that Aaron has shown from beginning to end,” the actor told SciFi Vision. “I always asked Angela [Kang], our showrunner, ‘When is this guy going to go darker? When is he going to have that edge to him?’ because I couldn't understand why someone would be so nice in the midst of being beaten up by Rick (Andrew Lincoln), first of all, and then the Saviors and the Heapsters and all the groups he interacts with. They're not kind to him, and he just keeps choosing diplomacy. I think if I could choose one thing that has really helped me in my life, it's that diplomacy. I think it's really important, especially nowadays, with everything going on in the world.”

Last night FOX’s comedy series, Call Me Kat, returned with all-new episodes for a third season. At the end of last season, Kat (Mayim Bialik) left on vacation to get away from the stress of running her business, leaving her best friend, Randi (Kyla Pratt) and Phil (Leslie Jordon) in charge. When Kat returns from her trip around the world, she’s decides to go with the flow and be more accepting, but she ends up becoming more confident and sticking up for what’s important to her, such as with keeping the business as a cat café rather than the juice bar Randi has turned it into in her absence.

According to Bialik, who spoke with SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable, the showrunners, Jim Patterson and Maria Ferrari, and producer Warren Bell thought this was a way to start fresh in some ways. “I think that they want[ed] a different take on these relationships,” she explained. “I think there's a lot more camaraderie that we're showing. We're exploring more of the relationships between the people, instead of having relationships with other things happening. Honestly, I was nervous about that, because I was thinking, ‘Gosh, it's just going to be boring, just all of us sitting [and] talking,’ and it's actually even, I think, [richer]. So, that's been a really wonderful shift. I think for Kat, again, Jim and Maria and Warren really wanted kind of a new start for her. I think having Randi take more ownership over the cafe and Kat having to kind of come into her own is giving us a little more space to expand the characters with a little bit more depth. I think that's sort of true all across the board,”

Based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda, the Starz series The Serpent Queen gives a contemporary look at Catherine (Samantha Morton)’s rise to power, told through flashbacks from her teenage years through adulthood.

Recently, to promote the series, SciFi Vision spoke with writer and executive producer Justin Haythe and executive producer Erwin Stoff about creating the series.

According to Haythe, they became aware of the project ten years ago when friend and executive producer Francis Lawrence had read a piece about Catherine and told them about it. “It was really specifically about Catherine, Diane and Henry, this unusual love triangle,” Haythe told SciFi Vision, saying that the project went away, but then the book became available again. “The nature of the business had changed,” he explained, “because it really is a story you want to tell in an extended format. Suddenly, the television business had gotten to where it was, and and Francis and Erwin said, ‘Hey, it's available again, what do you think? Have a read.’ I did, and I immediately saw this possibility of telling a singular story of a particular tone, a particular voice, and one that was apt for our times.”

Tonight, Starz airs an all-new episode of the historical drama, The Serpent Queen. The series is a contemporary take on the rise to power of Catherine de Medici, told through flashbacks from her teenage years and through adulthood. Young Catherine is played by actress Liv Hill, with Samantha Morton playing the elder Catherine.

Hill admitted that playing Catherine de Medici was a bit daunting once she learned more about her. “I didn't know who she was beforehand, to be honest,” the actress told SciFi Vision during a recent interview. “Then, when I read about her, and I realized her notorious, infamous reputation as a sort of evil queen…it was a gift of a character to play. Also, the idea of playing Samantha Morton young was also a little bit overwhelming.”

In Wednesday night’s season eleven premiere, Chicago Fire wrapped up the Severide-Kidd wedding cliffhanger before throwing a few wrenches into everyone’s personal and professional relationships. There’s a new guy on the truck and his cocky attitude is sure to make waves; Kidd (Taylor Kinney) doesn’t like him already. Meanwhile, Gallo (Alberto Rosende) had an illuminating conversation with Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), who revealed that he took the fall for the Emma (Caitlin Carver)’s situation. Being a stand-up guy, Gallo shared the info with Violet (Hanako Greensmith), fully aware that he’s probably sending her straight back into Hawkins’ arms.

Prior to the episode, SciFi Vision spoke with costars Greensmith, Rosende, and Daniel Kyri, who plays Ritter. We asked for the lowdown on the love triangle, how Violet feels about Hawkins at this point and what happens when they all turn up at Molly’s bar. Acorn TV’s Recipes for Love and Murder, which is based on the book series by Sally Andrew and was adapted for television by Karen Jeynes, takes place in a small town in South Africa. When a woman who writes advice columnist Tannie Maria (Maria Doyle Kennedy) ends up murdered, Maria and her colleague, journalist Jessie September, played by Kylie Fisher, partner up to find answers, against police advice. Can they track down the killer before it’s too late?

Recipes for Love and Murder was the first big role for costar Fisher, who spoke recently with SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview. The star didn’t read the book until after doing her role research so she could create her own version. “I kind of didn't want to initially read it,” said Fisher, “because the book is different to the adaptation, and I didn't want to get a preconceived notion of the character from the book. So, as we were doing filming, I was reading the book, and I was like, ‘This is what [Sally Andrew] says about the character, and this is what Karen’s written. Where does my understanding of the character also meet with these two versions of the story?”

The actress also pulled from her real life to find Jessie. “I identify with Jessie and the fact that we're both from the same racial background as well,” she told the site. “I didn't grow up in a small town; I grew up in Dubai, but my family is from South Africa, and we came back every single year.”

NBC’s Chicago P.D. returned for its tenth season Wednesday night, picking up about two weeks after last season’s finale. The premiere focused almost entirely on Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) reaction to the violent death of his CI, Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado), in the Los Teminos case. It was an incredibly tense episode that had viewers on the edge of their seats, but it didn’t leave much time for other storylines. So, Burzek shippers will have to wait at least another week to learn what’s next for the on-and-off couple.

At the end of last season, Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) offered to give Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) a house – his childhood home! – where they could raise her adopted daughter, Makayla. But Kim hasn’t accepted the offer and we have no idea what she’s thinking. It could be an ideal home for her and Makayla, or it could upset the balance of Kim and Adam’s platonic co-parenting relationship, which is very strong.
