Tomorrow Peacock releases it’s new limited series Last Light, based on Alex Scarrow’s bestselling novel of the same name. The thriller tells the story of a family separated in the middle of the chaos, when the world’s oil becomes unusable, and it sets off a chain reaction across the planet. Joanne Froggatt stars as Elena Yeats, wife to Andy Yeats (Matthew Fox), one of the world's leading petrol-chemical engineers.

Froggatt, who spoke with SciFi Vision in a recent exclusive, took inspiration for the character of Elena from a variety of different places. “I don't think I ever, or very rarely, unless I'm playing a real person, draw on sort of a specific person or anything like that,” said the actress. “I just do it in layers, really. I start, obviously, with the script and what the script’s telling me, and then I do as much research as I really need to do about the subject matters involved.”

Today Peacock releases the limited series, Last Light, based on the bestselling novel by Alex Scarrow. Last Light tells the thrilling story of the chaos that is a result of the world’s oil supply becoming unusable, and the family separated by the crisis.

Amber Rose Revah plays the part of Mika Bakhash, a woman with connections in the British government, who partners with Andy Yeats (Matthew Fox), the world’s leading petro-chemical engineer.

Recently, AMC and AMC+ premiered the third episode of Tales of the Walking Dead, “Dee,” which gave a new glimpse into the story of Alpha, played by Samantha Morton, when she was still Dee, before she joined the Whisperers.

Morton, who talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, does not consider Alpha to be evil on the television series. “I think that when you're making a television show,” she explained, “you always have to have an angle: the protagonist or the goodies or whatever, who’s the villain, who's the baddie, but it depends on the perspective that you're shooting it from…So, I think for Alpha, all of the things she did, she's at war; they're justified…War in the apocalypse, which was the Whisperer War, it’s complicated. I think it's not as simple as it may seem, however, she really was and is a comic book villain. There's definitely a egging up of that side of her for the purpose of entertainment and for the purpose of the show.”

“I think for the origin story, and to play Dee,” Morton continued, “You have a sense of trying to understand little subtleties of what may have triggered something in her to behave the way she behaves, or to have the ability to do what she does and did.”

Today, Acorn TV releases the first two episodes of its original series, Recipes for Love and Murder, based on the book by Sally Andrew, starring Maria Doyle Kennedy. Kennedy plays Maria, who writes the local recipe column, and when it is cut, competes for the position of advice columnist against rookie journalist Jessie (Kylie Fisher). When a woman who writes Tannie (literally, Auntie) Maria about her abusive husband is unexpectedly found murdered, Maria teams up with Jessie to investigate, all while comforting her readers with advice and recipes.

Kennedy was attracted to the role from the beginning. “I was reading a lot of stuff, and so much of it was about serial killers and the many gruesome ways that they dispose of women, and I was so tired of it,” the actress told SciFi Vision during an exclusive interview. “I was actually getting a bit angry about it as well. The next thing I opened was Recipes for Love and Murder, and I was just delighted with myself.”

Kennedy and her family moved to South Africa and didn’t look back.

Yesterday, NBC concluded the finals of season fourteen of American Ninja Warrior. For the second year in a row, sixteen-year-old Kaden Lebsack from Colorado finished the fastest and won a whopping $100k prize for being the Last Ninja Standing, followed by Jay Lewis, who finished less than a second behind him. This was only the second year both teenagers competed.

Tonight AMC premiered the second episode of season two of Kevin Can F*** Himself. In the episode, Neil (Alex Bonifer) returns from the hospital and actually tells Kevin (Eric Petersen) that Allison tried to kill him, but he’s so oblivious that he just assumes Neil is talking about his marriage. As Kevin continues to gain more fame because of his “Worcester Wild Dude” ad, he just treats his wife even worse, which only serves to drive Allison (Annie Murphy) further, when she seeks the council of a private investigator in faking her own death as an alternative to get away from Kevin.

The Sandman series finally was released on Netflix, and newcomer Vanesu Samunya, who plays Rose, and veteran actor Stephen Fry, who plays Gilbert, recently talked to the press during a roundtable interview.

With Sandman being the first big production that Samanyal has worked on, we asked her what she learned from the experience and from working with the other actors. “I learned a lot of stuff,” said the actress, “mainly about kind of, I think, everything outside of myself, just being on set for a prolonged period of time and really digesting scripts, especially whole scripts, where there're just so many scenes and so many things that you've got to read. I learned to pace myself and I learned kind of, I guess, how to manage myself, because this was my first opportunity to have a prolonged period of filming. That was the biggest learning curve for me.”

Fry told the site that there is still always more to learn, even for him. “I think you'll get the same answer from actors even older than me,” said Fry, “[which] is that every day is a school day with acting.”

TNT’s hit show Animal Kingdom ends its six-season run when the series finale airs tonight. Fans are on edge waiting to see what happens with the criminal Cody family. Each of the boys has an endgame in mind, but J is almost certainly planning to double-cross his uncles. There are also unanswered questions in the flashbacks. Are there more secrets surrounding J’s birth and Julia’s death?

SciFi VIsion caught up with series costars Kevin Csolak (Boardwalk Empire) and Jasper Polish (Force of Nature), who play young Pope and Julia. They wrapped their roles in 2021 and have waited almost a year for the finale – neither has seen the completed episode yet.  “It's just been an insane whirlwind,” Polish told us, “but I'm very happy with how both of our characters have been accepted again into the fan base.”

Neither Csolak nor Polish would give details, but they did tease a satisfying conclusion. “The last episode is really, I think, going to give people the energy and propel them to go back into season one. There're a lot of exciting things and questions that are going to be answered,” teased Csolak. “It's going to make me want to go back and start Animal Kingdom from season one again and just rewatch and see how it all connects.”

Syfy recently premiered the back half of the second season of its series Resident Alien. This season on the series, D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund) had been talking to Ben (Levi Fiehler) without Kate (Meredith Garretson)’s knowledge about some of the things that were bothering him about his wife and his marriage. When Kate found out, she understandably became upset. When we spoke with Wetterlund and Fiehler recently during a roundtable, we asked if their friendship could continue to survive in spite of what has happened.

“I mean, Kate's alone in this,” Wetterlund told SciFi Vision. “She's fighting for her marriage; she's fighting for her kid. She's fighting for any semblance of a frickin’ social life. So, D’arcy really effs her over when she finds out that her new best friend is actually just kind of going behind her back and talking to her husband about her. It doesn't feel great, and I completely understand why she would feel that way. It's super inconsiderate. But from D’arcy's point of view, she doesn't really understand the connection between Ben and Kate that much, because she doesn't know Kate. It's like kind of thing when your childhood friend gets married, and you don't really get it…So, until she really invests and begins to understand who Kate is, she's not going to be able to sympathize with Kate.”

Five Days at Memorial continues this week as the fifth episode drops on Apple TV+’s. The riveting eight-part miniseries tells the real-life story of the staff and patients trapped inside New Orleans’ Memorial Hospital in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.  The fifth episode, “Day Five,” is out today and is the most harrowing hour of an unrelentingly grim series, but it’s truly an excellent hour of television.

In Day Four, the medical staff was beginning to face some very difficult decisions about who to evacuate first – decisions that could mean life or death for the last in line, but the evacuation didn’t happen and people inside and outside the hospital are growing desperate. Patients are beginning to die while exhausted doctors and nurses stand by, unable to offer treatment or relieve their pain. Day Five brings unthinkable questions and impossible choices that ultimately lead to a criminal investigation.

Recently, SciFi Vision spoke with Adepero Oduye, who stars as Karen Wynn, nurse manager of the ICU and also head of Memorial’s ethics committee. Oduye credits the source material (journalist Sheri Fink’s book of the same name) with helping her understand Wynn’s real-life experience. “The book was really helpful in unpacking the ethics of it all,” she told us, “and the ethics committee and what it historically does, particularly in this hospital.”
