Tonight, The Walking Dead returned to AMC for all-new episodes of the final season. At the end of the episode, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), accompanied by Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and some soldiers, invited the residents of Alexandria to join the Commonwealth community. During a recent roundtable interview, members of the cast talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision about how difficult it is for their characters to stop moving and settle down and how they are dealing with that. Eleanor Matsurra, who plays Yumiko on the series, doesn’t know if they can. “I don't think it’s in anyone's nature to sit still, kick back, and relax and be like, ‘We did it; we found it; we found the place,’ said Matsuura. “They know what's out there. They're mistrustful of it from the start, even someone like Yumiko, who's really living a very privileged side of the experience of the Commonwealth and is certainly reaping the benefits of a system that is always going to serve her well, because she's upper class in this world.”

The actress added that it's partially because Yumiko has seen too much. “She's knows too much to survive this long for her to just accept this so easily and to not be savvy to the things going on around her…It's just not realistic. I think they all know that too well, which is why they can never just sort of sit down and enjoy it.”

Lauren Ridloff, who plays Connie, seconded that. “You can't just erase our history,” the actress told SciFi Vision. “I mean, I think that is just impossible to do…[Being at the Commonwealth is] almost like an amalgamation of what's happening throughout going through the apocalypse, and now with that knowledge and with that experience that [we] have going back to our old selves, do we continue to make those same decisions based on the post-apocalyptic situation? And how does that influence our behavior and our decisions within a quote unquote, normal society?...I think that's an interesting thing to explore throughout the season.”

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches tells the story of forbidden love in the world of witches, vampires, and daemons. Last week SciFi Vision caught up with series star, Teresa Palmer, before the eagerly-awaited finale, to talk about Diana Bishop’s final journey and what it means to the actress.

Palmer worked closely with Harkness through the seasons on building Diana, and it really helped her to find her footing as the character. “It was so empowering for me,” said Palmer. “She was like, ‘You are Diana; that's why we cast you. I chose you, because of your spirit, your essence.’

The actress continued that Harkness put a lot of herself in the character, and the two of them see a lot of each other in themselves, but not when it comes to academia, which caused Palmer some doubt. The author was quick to reassure her, however. “I’d start obsessing about the little things,” said the actress. “…I think I was vulnerable, because I kept saying, ‘Well, I'm not an academic, and I don't find pleasure in academics the way you do…’ She was like, ‘But it's all in you. It's all there. Just lean into it.’ I think that that felt very liberating.”

During the interview Palmer also talked about how much Diana has grown since the beginning of the series. “When we see her in the first season, she's still running away from who she truly is and really living a life that doesn't serve her in any way; I can tell by looking back at that first season. I was like, ‘Oh, she's such a shell of herself, of who she ultimately becomes.’…It's not until even midway through the second season, where I'm like, ‘Oh, she's really landing into a place where she's empowered and sitting in her authenticity,’ which is really lovely to watch.

Lifetime’s latest Saturday night thriller is a cautionary tale about the dangers of technology. Inspired by actual events, Caught in His Web tells the horrifying story of three high school students (Malia Baker, Alison Thorton, Emma Tremblay) who are each ensnared by a creepy cyberbully who coerces them into sharing nude photos, then harasses, stalks, and blackmails them. Garcelle Beauvais (The Magicians) costars as a police detective who helps the girls identify and turn the tables on their harasser.

In a recent Zoom panel, the cast spoke at length about the film and the dangers that young people are exposed to through their smartphones and social media. As the parent of two teens, Beauvais feels the film sends an important message.

“One of the reasons why it was so important not only to be a part of [this movie] but to get the word out is because it can happen,” she told SciFi Vision, “and I'm always trying to use things as cautionary tales for my boys.  I always say don't ever give your personal information to anyone, but obviously these girls did, and they just got targeted.”

Yesterday, the back half of the final season of The Walking Dead flagship series premiered on AMC+, with a linear premiere to follow next Sunday on AMC. One of the themes this season has been about trust and losing that trust, especially when it comes to Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Leah. According to Lynn Collins, who plays Leah, that could make her more dangerous. “When people ask about Leah,” said Collins to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable, “and ‘is she a bad person; is she a good person?’ Well, in her mind, she's been betrayed by Daryl twice now. He left her, and now he lied to her, and he's choosing his people over her and her people. I know, for myself, when I have been betrayed, I feel like in some ways, I was never more dangerous, because a breaking of trust was so personally affronting to me…When it's broken, for me, personally, [it’s] very difficult to come back from.”

Killing Eve returns to BBC America for its eagerly anticipated fourth and final season on February 27th. After Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh)'s conversation on the bridge at the end of last season, Eve is hellbent on revenge, while Villanelle sets out to prove that she's not the monster everyone thinks she is. Meanwhile, Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) continues to hunt down The Twelve and find the person responsible for ordering her son's murder.

Last week, a few members of the cast and the executive producers of the series got together for a panel as part of the TCA winter press tour to discuss the upcoming season.

When talking about returning to the series, star Comer said that working on the show is always a surprise. “The show definitely keeps you on your toes,” said Comer, “and it’s always so exciting getting to sit down with the script and see where it is that we’re headed. Sometimes when you start a season, you have a vague idea of where the story’s going to go, but a lot of the time it gets figured out as you go along and it’s very organic in that way.”

One of the themes that is explored this season is change and evolution for the characters. “There’re a lot of lessons that I think Villanelle learns that I don’t think she’s actually aware of,” said Comer. “I think she’s so desperate to change at the beginning, and I’m not sure that comes from a truthful place.”

Recently, HBO Max premiered season two of Raised by Wolves. In the second season of the series, Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) and the human children settle in the new atheistic colony in the tropical zone of Kepler 22 b.

During a recent exclusive interview with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision, creator Aaron Guzikowski talked a bit about the atheist collective colony and teased a bit about what’s to come. “There's a lot more evidence here of the society that once existed on this planet, previously, this ancient civilization,” said Guzikowski, “and we're starting to get some little clues as to kind of what made that civilization tick, that in fact there was kind of this religious connotation to a lot of what was going on there. They're finding these strange scan cards, but they're too damaged to get the information off of them…They're finding the [cards] scattered all over the tropical zone, and they're trying to figure out what exactly it means.”

Lifetime’s back with another female-focused horror movie this Saturday night! The network is really on a roll in 2022, using diverse stories, characters, and casts to tell good old-fashioned thrillers that appeal to a broad audience. This week’s genre is sorority house horror!

Line Sisters centers on a group of sorority sisters (played by LeToya Luckett, Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Ta’Rhonda Jones and Drew Sidora) who reunite at a Black Greek Weekend celebration. The four share more than the bonds of sisterhood, as a mysterious death looms large in their memories. As soon as they arrive at the reunion, strange things begin to happen to each one of them, threatening to unearth a deadly secret that may tear these sisters apart.

SciFi Vision sat in on a panel discussion with the starring cast. Naturally, the conversation turned to sisterhood. While none of the actresses are in a sorority, all felt that they experienced sisterhood on set.

Kierra Sheard-Kelly told journalists that “true sisterhood is when you can sit in a circle of women who are secure within themselves but understand that we each have something different to offer so there is no need for a competition or a comparison.”

For Le’Toya Luckkett, sisterhood is “having a tribe that you can trust, having a group of women that you can be there for, be your true self, be transparent with and know that they got you, good or bad. I like showing up to be that for someone and I like knowing that I got it.”

Yesterday, Prime Video dropped the new Reacher television series a day early. The show is based on the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child and stars Alan Ritchson in the title role. In the book, the character is large and imposing, and the actor had to train for the role. “I've, I've tried to stay fit most of my career,” said Ritchson to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a recent interview, “but I walk around like 205 usually, and [they wanted me] to be 235 for this. So, during the pandemic when you can't get to a gym, because everything’s shut down, it made it interesting. So, I was fortunate enough to be able to build a little mini gym in [our] living room and our dining room…I worked out five days a week, once we got a little closer to production.”

The actor also told the site they did a lot of fight training. “We worked with knives. I was able to recall some of my work on Hunger Games: Catching Fire, where I worked with a dagger extensively and got really good at it. So, it was fun to be able to sort of recall that, but fighting with a bicycle tire and a necktie was new to me. So, it took a little work, but the stunt team was patient with me while we built those fights, and I think they came out great.”

Recently, Syfy premiered the second season of its hit comedy series, Resident Alien. On the series, Sara Tomko plays Asta, who is the only one who knows Harry (Alan Tudyk)’s secret. Alice Wetterlund plays the role of D’Arcy, who is Asta’s best friend. The two actresses get along really well outside of the series as well as on the show. “In general, my friendship with D'Arcy is very reflective of my friendship with Alice,” said Tomko to SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable interview with the press. “…We are chosen family. She makes me laugh like nobody else, and we just get along so well, and it's so easy when we're in scenes together.”

The actress added that she would like if D’Arcy would find out the truth about Harry.

Tomorrow, the new series Reacher, based on the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child, premieres on Prime Video. In the series, Malcolm Goodwin plays the role of Captain Oscar Finlay, Chief of Detectives at the Margrave Police Department, who ends up working with Reacher (Alan Ritchson). Goodwin is probably best known for his role as Detective Clive Babineaux in the CW series iZombie. According to the actor, who recently talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, that role did affect the way he portrayed Finlay. “It definitely did inform this character in terms of just, [how] it felt like I was a police officer,” said Goodwin. “It felt like I really did it; it felt like I had a history of it. I'm not gonna lie…I feel like I saw the good seventy-two cases or whatever it was murder cases! So, yeah, just going through that, iZombie did help inform in terms of the knowledge that Finley would have going into the chief detective position.”
