SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Interview: Chicago Med's Jessy Schram on What Season 8 Brings for Hannah

Chicago MedAre you ready, Chicago fans? Tonight’s the night you’ve been waiting for!  All three shows - Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD – air their season premieres beginning at 8/7c on NBC. To celebrate the triple whammy, cast from the three shows sat down yesterday for a series of rapid-fire interview panels.

SciFi Vision asked Chicago Med stars Nick Gehlfuss (Dr. Will Halstead) and Jessy Schram (Dr. Hannah Asher) about the season-ending fire at Will’s apartment building. The new episode is ominously titled “How Do You Begin to Count the Losses.” Is everyone OK, and will the incident affect former addict Hannah’s recovery?

When we left her, Hannah “is in a really healthy mindset,” Schram reminded us, “and is doing the work to be in a recovered space.”  However, there will be ramifications – avoiding spoilers, both Gehlfuss and Schram referred to post-fire “complications” for Hannah. And when it comes to complications, said Schram, “what’s going to be hard for Hannah is that her past is always catching up with her.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Showrunner Martin Gero Talks Quantum Leap, Premiering Tonight on NBC

Martin GeroTonight, NBC premieres the anticipated new Quantum Leap series. The series picks up some thirty years after Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) disappeared after stepping into the Quantum Leap accelerator. A new team has been put together, led by physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee), to bring the project up to date and figure out what went wrong originally. When Song makes an unauthorized leap without telling anyone, the team, including his fiancé Addison (Caitlin Bassett), who serves as his helpful hologram, is left to figure out why.

The series may technically be a sequel, but according to showrunner and executive producer Martin Gero, who recently talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, you don’t need to see the original to enjoy and understand the new series. “The great news is, you don't need to do that at all,” said Gero. “Anything that you wouldn't understand will be explained in the body of the episode. So, [it’s] not like a here are the ten episodes you should watch of Quantum Leap to understand it; we're going to do all that work for you.”

He did add, however, that there would be some Easter eggs for fans of the original.

Quantum Leap Cast & Showrunner Preview the New Series, Premiering Tonight

Quantum LeapTonight, the new Quantum Leap premieres on NBC. The show is a remake of the original series in ’89 that starred Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett, a scientist who during an experiment with time travel ends up trapped in the past, leaping into different people each episode, trying to return to his original timeline. In the new series, physicist Ben Song, played by Raymond Lee, is part of a new team of scientists trying to understand machine and what happened to its creator.

Most of the cast of the series was familiar with the original show. “My best friend in sixth grade, this was his favorite show,” Star Lee revealed to SciFi Vision during the recent TCA panels. “Prior to that, it was just all, like, X‑Men and Ninja Turtles for me, which was the first real show I remember watching, and also my first introduction to sci‑fi. So, I have very fond memories of just, like, playing and then going home and watching it with him.”

Ernie Hudson, who plays the role of Herbert ‘Magic’ Williams said that he used to watch the show with his two older sons. “I was a single parent,” said Hudson, “and we loved watching the show and talking about it, discussing it after.”

Video Interview: Winners of AGT, Judges, and More

AGTLast night, America’s Got Talent revealed the top five acts and eventually whittled it down to the winner of the season, the dancing group Mayyas. While judge Simon Cowell was surprised by the top five chosen by America, as were a lot of viewers, he feels the right act won. “There were a few surprises tonight along the way,” Cowell told SciFi Vision last night after the live finale. “…However, when it comes down to who is actually going to win, and if I had to put my money on it last night, I would bet on the people who won. I thought they were sensational.”

We also spoke to Mayyas on the virtual red carpet before the night was over, asking them what they learned about themselves from the competition. “It taught us about how Lebanese people are really strong,” Maryjoe Tarabay of Mayyas told the site. “No matter how pressured we are, no matter how much we feel pain, we just push, push, push to get to whatever we want and just prove to all the people that we're strong, and we're here, and we're ready to win anything we want.”

For more, including what shocked judge Heidi Klum the most this season and how ventriloquist Darci Lynne felt being on the AGT stage again, watch the interviews below!

Blu-ray Review: Lucifer: The Sixth & Final Season - Dance with the Devil One Last Time

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.

LuciferToday the sixth and final season of Lucifer was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.

At the start of season six, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is in position to take over for his father as God, but does he want to be? The beginning of the season focuses on Lucifer struggling to decide what he wants as he prepares to go up to Heaven with Chloe (Lauren German) by his side. However, things take a surprising turn when a young angel named Rory (Brianna Hildebrand) shows up wanting to kill Lucifer. Throw in time travel, a ghost, a wedding, and animation, season six is full of surprises.

As always with Lucifer, the season brings action, drama, romance, and comedy and everything in between. Unique this season is the third episode, “Yabba Dabba Do Me,” in which Lucifer and Chloe enter an animated world of a character’s mind and are stuck in a broken loop, which is a lot of fun.

Exclusive Video Interview: Samantha Morton on Becoming Catherine de Medici, The Serpent Queen, Tonight on Starz

Samantha MortonTonight, STARZ premieres the series Serpent Queen, based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda. The historical drama tells the story of Catherine de Medici’s rise to power, with a contemporary edge. The story is told by Catherine (Samantha Morton) to her new servant, Rahima (Sennia Nanua) via flashbacks.

Playing someone like Catherine de Medici could easily be a daunting task, and Morton tried not to think about it, lest she become overwhelmed. “I approached her like I'd approach any other character,” the actress told SciFi Vision during a recent exclusive interview. “[It] is just trying to find the truth and be in the moment and understand the story and understand what people needed me to do and what their motivations were and to try and find a balance with all of that. But there's no denying that she's somebody that's incredibly formidable, and there was a level of expectation to get it right.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Dennie Gordon on Directing Last Light

Dennie GordonBased on the bestselling novel by Alex Scarrow, Last Light, which premieres today on Peacock, follows petro-chemist Andy Yeats (Matthew Fox), who on a business trip to the Middle East, finds himself in the middle of an international crisis and separated from his family when the world’s oil supply becomes unusable.

Director Dennie Gordon, who recently talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, spoke to some of the challenges of bringing the series to television. “There were many challenges, but, of course, that's what makes us excited,” the director told the site. “Part of it was finding these locations and being able to make this an international show on on our rather small budget; that was tricky. The cast came together very quickly. I was thrilled, because I got my first choices everywhere, but I think it was [challenging] operating in a foreign country, directing in several different languages. We had German speakers, we had Czech, we had French, we had Arabic; we were everywhere. [It was] just a lot of pulling all these people together. There was just so much collaboration…Bringing all these people together, it ended up feeling like behind the scenes we were as global as our story.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Joanne Froggatt Stars in Last Light, Premiering Tomorrow

Joanne FroggattTomorrow Peacock releases it’s new limited series Last Light, based on Alex Scarrow’s bestselling novel of the same name. The thriller tells the story of a family separated in the middle of the chaos, when the world’s oil becomes unusable, and it sets off a chain reaction across the planet. Joanne Froggatt stars as Elena Yeats, wife to Andy Yeats (Matthew Fox), one of the world's leading petrol-chemical engineers.

Froggatt, who spoke with SciFi Vision in a recent exclusive, took inspiration for the character of Elena from a variety of different places. “I don't think I ever, or very rarely, unless I'm playing a real person, draw on sort of a specific person or anything like that,” said the actress. “I just do it in layers, really. I start, obviously, with the script and what the script’s telling me, and then I do as much research as I really need to do about the subject matters involved.”
