Advance Review: Wynonna Earp Returns for Season Three

Wynonna EarpFriday Syfy premieres the third season of its hit series Wynonna Earp with the episode, “Blood Red and Going Down.” In the episode, a bus of sexy supernatural strangers comes to Purgatory, and Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) must work to uncover what they are doing there, before it’s too late and the whole town is under their spell.

The series moves into season three in full swing. The show picks up not long after last season, with Wynonna and Doc (Tim Rozon) still missing baby Alice, but it’s all hands on deck when a group of people are murdered.

Wynonna EarpThe episode is a standalone for the most part, but does pull in some pieces from previous episodes to keep the continuity of the mythology, bringing the excitement right out of the gate.

I really enjoyed the first episode. It was as expected well crafted, and a fun story. It brought in a supernatural element never seen before on the show, which I appreciated.

I liked seeing the gang back together again, yet also how they have changed in their reactions towards each other after the events of last season.

The cast itself is as great as ever, with the addition of Mama Earp, played by Megan Follows, who looks to be a fun new character.

If the premiere is anything to go by, this season will stand up to the spectacular audience response of last year. I can’t wait to see where it is headed.
