Video Interview: The Wilds’ Erana James & Mia Healey on Representation, Shoni, & More

Erana James and Mia HealeyMay 6th the highly anticipated second season of The Wilds comes to Prime Video. We recently chatted with series stars Erana James, who stars as Toni, and Mia Healey, who stars as Shelby, as part of a roundtable interview. Last season, Shelby finally admitted she was a lesbian and she and Toni became lovers. As such, the characters have become beloved by the LGBTQ+ community. We asked if this caused added pressure to getting that representation right. “I'm not sure if it's pressure,” said Healey. “It feels like something that I felt very privileged and honored to do…We just really respect that community and admire that community. I want to do these characters justice so that we can tell these stories that are meant to reach these people in an authentic way.”

Video Interview: The Wilds’ Sarah Pidgeon & Reign Edwards on Emotions & the Island’s Impact

Sarah Pidgeon & Reign EdwardsThe highly anticipated season two of The Wilds premieres on Prime Video on Friday, May 6th. Season one of the series followed a group of teenage girls stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. At the end of last season, after being rescued, Leah (Sarah Pidgeon) discovered clues that proved her theory that the plane crash wasn’t an accident, which no one back on the island had believed.

During season two, while still on the island, Leah is still going through a lot with no one wanting to listen. This leads to some heavy scenes. During a recent roundtable interview, we asked the actress about connecting with that part of the character. “When you experience an emotion,” explained Pidgeon to SciFi Vision, “whether or not you're acting, your body doesn't know that you're acting. So, there were certainly some long days and some hard days, but the storytelling and the writing is so strong in the series that I feel like [it] does so much of the work for you. It really is just trusting in [that] and hoping that you're ready to be in that place and ready to be on the other side of it when you come out of it. I think it's just sort of really taking in everything this character has experienced. Everything [they’re] experiencing, it's so overwhelming, when you really just sit and think about it. I think it's not that hard to feel empathy for these characters and embody that emotion.”

Interview: Fear the Walking Dead's Jenna Elfman & Keith Carradine on What it Would Take to Leave the Tower

***The following interview contains slight spoilers for tonight's episode, 7.10***

Jenna Elfman and Keith CarradineIn tonight’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead, Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) ends up very sick from radiation, ultimately because of Strand (Colman Domingo) and the way he runs the tower. When speaking with cast members recently at a roundtable, we asked what it might take to get them to leave the tower and fight Strand. “I guess it's that feeling of [for] June, where can you do the most good, which situation?” Jenna Elfman, who plays the character, told SciFi Vision. “And it's so hard, because, I mean, if you're dead, you can't help anybody, and what kind of environment is out there? With how bad it's getting with Strand and progressively worsening, you start kind of looking at the ratio of like, compromise to benefit, and at a certain point, is it worth exposing yourself and going out there? Are there pockets where you can survive? Is that less bad than the feeling of a slow death by your integrity of watching this person do these things to people and how contagious the toxicity is?...Ultimately, is it worse to stay? Is it worse to go?...What starts happening that starts shifting those viewpoints with June and her integrity and stuff, that is a big dilemma.”

Fivel StewartApple TV Plus’ latest anthology series, Roar, is grabbing viewers with its feminist themes and all-star cast. The cast features Alison Brie, Cynthia Erivo, Betty Gilpin, Nicole Kidman, Issa Rae, Fivel Stewart, Meera Syal and Merritt Wever.

In chapter eight, “The Girl Who Loved Horses,” Stewart (Atypical) stars as Jane, a young woman who prefers the company of horses to people. When her father is killed, she grabs a gun and sets out to find the man responsible. Video Interview: Halo EPs Steven Kane & Kiki Wolfkill on Balancing Original vs New Content

Steven Kane and Kiki WolfkillThe series Halo recently premiered on Paramount Plus and SciFi Vision took part in a roundtable interview with executive producer Steven Kane and executive producer Kiki Wolfkill, who is also a developer at 343 Industries on the Halo games. The two talked about creating the series and some of the similarities and differences to the original franchise.

We asked about balancing using the storyline from the game franchise and bringing in a new take on it. According to executive producer Steven Kane, they started organically with John’s story and his journey of self discovery. “From that point on, we were sort of committed to telling our own story that existed within the universe that people know Halo, and gave us a chance to to build out worlds, either some new ones, or in many cases, worlds that were canonical in a way that allowed fans who know the game to really get the chance to visit those places…and of course for people newly initiated into Halo, a chance to see new worlds for the first time at all.

Video Interview: Halo's Natascha McElhone & Olive Gray

Natascha McElhone & Olive GrayRecently, to promote the new series Halo, SciFi Vision took part in a roundtable interview with some of the cast, including stars Natascha McElhone, who plays Dr. Catherine Halsey, and Olive Gray, who plays her daughter, Miranda Keyes. Both of the actresses had known about the Halo franchise long before taking on the role. “I was first introduced to it twenty years ago,” said McElhone to SciFi Vision, “my husband used to play it…but since then, my sons have also played it.”

Gray was first introduced to it through friends. “I was familiar with the game,” the performer told the site. “All of my friends were deeply intrigued entrenched in everything Halo, while I was a kind of teenager and just entering into my twenties. So, yeah, I was super aware of the game…and I know quite a bit about it via my friends.”

McElhone also talked with the site a bit about the fan base and how so many different types of people play the game. “It's got its diehard fans. It's been in competition in the last twenty years with lots of other games that have come onto platforms, but I am impressed with it staying power and the fact that it has such a devoted following. Then, it's a following of different generations, but it's not just the something that only existed for a couple of years and the scholar fan bases…It's quite a heterogeneous bunch who play it, which I like. It feels representative of the population.”

The actress found the ease with which the character dealt with situations logically the easiest to connect to but found other parts of her more difficult to relate to. “I think that being a woman in a man's world was a little bit more of a stretch for me, the limitations, the realities of her being a rancher out there, [and] what she comes up against,” said Taylor.
