SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

The Good Wife 3.19 Review: "Blue Ribbon Panel"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

thegoodwife-iconAll of the plots in this show move forward in this episode in small ways. There's the ongoing struggle to move Will out of his place at the head of the firm with Diane. It was a power struggle that was getting repetitive so Will made a move to ensure that there would be no more power plays to cause further chaos at the firm. Alicia goes ahead with the IRS investigation into Kalinda's possibly illicit activities. Plus, Alicia is at the center of the Case of the Week and trying to buy her old house with her bigger salary bonus that was given to her in the previous episode.

Lost Girl 1.11 Review: "Faetal Justice"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbA fresh focus doesn't quite cover up the fact that "Lost Girl" is showing signs of stress around the seams. This episode should have been a tight little mystery and a feather in the show's cap, but instead there are too many rough touches in the writing, little moments where things don't come together. It's not without merit, but too often the immersion is broken, the fun slithers away, and it feels like a great little show is being let down.

Supernatural 7.17 Review: "The Born-Again Identity"

By John Keegan

supernatural_iconAnd now that secret that wasn’t much of a secret is fully revealed. Frankly, anyone who didn’t see this coming a mile away just wasn’t paying attention. That it happened to coincide with the return of another old favorite at the same time was icing on the cake. And since Head Lucifer is involved, that cake is probably on fire and trying to eat you.

Fringe 4.15 Review: "A Short Story About Love"

By John Keegan

Fringe-Glyphs-meu-anjo-17630623-160-160Coming on the heels of one of the most revelatory episodes of “Fringe” yet, this episode feels like a bit of a step down. That the central case for the episode wasn’t particularly involving didn’t help the matter, but there was also something lacking in the overall package, especially in how certain expository elements were handled. Even so, this are minor quibbles overall, and the episode continued the winning streak for this season of “Fringe”.

Spartacus: Vengeance 2.9: "Monsters"

By John Keegan

spartacus-posterWith just a few relatively minor apparent deviations from the historical record, “Spartacus: Vengeance” has managed to set up the climactic battle between Glaber’s Roman forces and Spartacus’ rebels with dramatic flair. I think it’s safe to say that anyone who complains about “lack of action” after this episode should have their head examined.

Touch 1.2 Review: "1+1=3"

By John Keegan

touch_tv_show_icon“Touch” debuted with fairly strong numbers, but with such a long gap between the “sneak preview” and the actual beginning of the series, I was curious to see how the show would fare in the ratings. This episode actually did very well, which suggests that a lot of people liked what they saw in the pilot enough to give the series another chance.

Nicole Richie Brings Signature Style to NBC's "Fashion Star"

By Karen Moul

Nicole RichieRenaissance woman Nicole Ritchie has a new job!

The fashion designer-actress-author-singer is a celebrity mentor on NBC’s new reality series Fashion Star. Each week, Nicole offers advice to 14 unknown designers as they pursue a serious prize: $6 million in orders from H&M, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.

“Being a mentor is something that's new for me,” says Nicole, “but a role that I take very seriously. It was a wonderful experience doing it.”

“I find this show to be very inspirational. It's always such a great feeling to watch people's dreams come true. And if I can help them be a part of that then that's something that I was right away on board for.”

Nicole’s own mentor, she tells Scifi Vision, “Has been my father. Actually both of my parents have always been ones to encourage me to be myself and stay true to myself and not fall into what other people want me to do.”

“And it is important not to copy other people's careers,” she adds, “but set the tone of who you want to be. And my father's always encouraged me to do that.”

Nicole launched her two fashion lines, Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960, in 2009. What is the biggest lesson she’s learned? Be open to change.

“You have to be able to learn from your mistakes and grow and be open to criticism. And that is something that I talked to the designers about all through the season.”

Last week, Nicole spoke with us about Fashion Star, looking great on a budget, and her own fashion regrets.

Fashion Star airs at 10:00 pm on Tuesdays on NBC.

"Grimm:" Bitsie Tullock - What's in store for Juliette?

By Karen Moul

Bitsie TullochAfter a brief hiatus, Grimm is back this week with a new episode featuring Portland’s sexiest Hexenbiest, Adalind. From NBC:

After the grisly murder of a familiar shop owner, Nick joins forces with Monroe to help solve the murder. When the shop owner’s sister, Rosalee (guest star Bree Turner), comes to town, Nick thinks he may have found a new ally in the creature world. Elsewhere, Captain Renard enlists Adalind to cast a spell on Hank. Meanwhile, Sgt. Wu unwittingly becomes entangled in Adalind’s dastardly plan.

What NBC doesn’t mention is what’s up with Juliette? In the last few episodes she discovered an engagement ring stashed in Nick’s sock drawer, then was abducted by a crazy Dämonfeuer. It was a bit too much for her to handle, and she told Nick so.

So where does that leave their relationship?

Actress Bitsie Tulloch, who plays Juliette, recently shared her thoughts. “I think she is confused,” Bitsie told Scifi Vision, “extremely confused. She's worried, her mind is just constantly racing, trying to figure out what is going on with him.”
