Blu-ray Review: Lucifer: The Sixth & Final Season - Dance with the Devil One Last Time

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.

LuciferToday the sixth and final season of Lucifer was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.

At the start of season six, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is in position to take over for his father as God, but does he want to be? The beginning of the season focuses on Lucifer struggling to decide what he wants as he prepares to go up to Heaven with Chloe (Lauren German) by his side. However, things take a surprising turn when a young angel named Rory (Brianna Hildebrand) shows up wanting to kill Lucifer. Throw in time travel, a ghost, a wedding, and animation, season six is full of surprises.

As always with Lucifer, the season brings action, drama, romance, and comedy and everything in between. Unique this season is the third episode, “Yabba Dabba Do Me,” in which Lucifer and Chloe enter an animated world of a character’s mind and are stuck in a broken loop, which is a lot of fun.

Exclusive Video Interview: Samantha Morton on Becoming Catherine de Medici, The Serpent Queen, Tonight on Starz

Samantha MortonTonight, STARZ premieres the series Serpent Queen, based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda. The historical drama tells the story of Catherine de Medici’s rise to power, with a contemporary edge. The story is told by Catherine (Samantha Morton) to her new servant, Rahima (Sennia Nanua) via flashbacks.

Playing someone like Catherine de Medici could easily be a daunting task, and Morton tried not to think about it, lest she become overwhelmed. “I approached her like I'd approach any other character,” the actress told SciFi Vision during a recent exclusive interview. “[It] is just trying to find the truth and be in the moment and understand the story and understand what people needed me to do and what their motivations were and to try and find a balance with all of that. But there's no denying that she's somebody that's incredibly formidable, and there was a level of expectation to get it right.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Dennie Gordon on Directing Last Light

Dennie GordonBased on the bestselling novel by Alex Scarrow, Last Light, which premieres today on Peacock, follows petro-chemist Andy Yeats (Matthew Fox), who on a business trip to the Middle East, finds himself in the middle of an international crisis and separated from his family when the world’s oil supply becomes unusable.

Director Dennie Gordon, who recently talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, spoke to some of the challenges of bringing the series to television. “There were many challenges, but, of course, that's what makes us excited,” the director told the site. “Part of it was finding these locations and being able to make this an international show on on our rather small budget; that was tricky. The cast came together very quickly. I was thrilled, because I got my first choices everywhere, but I think it was [challenging] operating in a foreign country, directing in several different languages. We had German speakers, we had Czech, we had French, we had Arabic; we were everywhere. [It was] just a lot of pulling all these people together. There was just so much collaboration…Bringing all these people together, it ended up feeling like behind the scenes we were as global as our story.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Joanne Froggatt Stars in Last Light, Premiering Tomorrow

Joanne FroggattTomorrow Peacock releases it’s new limited series Last Light, based on Alex Scarrow’s bestselling novel of the same name. The thriller tells the story of a family separated in the middle of the chaos, when the world’s oil becomes unusable, and it sets off a chain reaction across the planet. Joanne Froggatt stars as Elena Yeats, wife to Andy Yeats (Matthew Fox), one of the world's leading petrol-chemical engineers.

Froggatt, who spoke with SciFi Vision in a recent exclusive, took inspiration for the character of Elena from a variety of different places. “I don't think I ever, or very rarely, unless I'm playing a real person, draw on sort of a specific person or anything like that,” said the actress. “I just do it in layers, really. I start, obviously, with the script and what the script’s telling me, and then I do as much research as I really need to do about the subject matters involved.”

Exclusive: Samantha Morton Talks Alpha and Tales of the Walking Dead

Samantha MortonRecently, AMC and AMC+ premiered the third episode of Tales of the Walking Dead, “Dee,” which gave a new glimpse into the story of Alpha, played by Samantha Morton, when she was still Dee, before she joined the Whisperers.

Morton, who talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, does not consider Alpha to be evil on the television series. “I think that when you're making a television show,” she explained, “you always have to have an angle: the protagonist or the goodies or whatever, who’s the villain, who's the baddie, but it depends on the perspective that you're shooting it from…So, I think for Alpha, all of the things she did, she's at war; they're justified…War in the apocalypse, which was the Whisperer War, it’s complicated. I think it's not as simple as it may seem, however, she really was and is a comic book villain. There's definitely a egging up of that side of her for the purpose of entertainment and for the purpose of the show.”

“I think for the origin story, and to play Dee,” Morton continued, “You have a sense of trying to understand little subtleties of what may have triggered something in her to behave the way she behaves, or to have the ability to do what she does and did.”
