SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Lost Girl 2.14 Review: "Midnight Lamp"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbFrom minute one it seemed like this episode would crash and burn, between the villain who lacked any charisma and the show's best character taking a road trip and only showing up via text messages. So it's slightly amazing that when all's said and done, this proved to be a fun romp of an instalment with enough seeds and threads of ongoing story arcs to satisfy the audience, no matter what they watch "Lost Girl" for.

Abraham Lincoln: Not One for the Ages, But One for the Weekend

By Daniel Denehy

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterSurprisingly I don't actually have a lot to say about this one. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is certainly a unique book concept, but as a movie simply an exercise in the melodramatic. Rather, I should say a glorious exercise in the melodramatic. As another tid-bit of background about your reviewer, I love melodramas. I find them supremely entertaining, and even sometimes moving. This melodrama leads more towards the prior.

Covert Affairs 3.2 Review: "Sound and Vision"

By John Keegan

covert_affairs_by_narcizze-d4l60o2Now that the tectonic shifts presented in the premiere have been tossed to the audience, it's time for the writers to start exploring what this new status quo actually means. As it turns out, some of the changes are less extreme than originally thought, but it still represents an opportunity for the show to gain a fresh perspective. Despite everything that has happened, of course, it would be foolish to ignore the one constant: the amazing chemistry between Annie and Auggie.

White Collar 4.2 Review: "Most Wanted"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

white-collar-posterIn an unusual move for "White Collar", the season premiere was only the first part of what can be thought of as the show's first two-part premiere. Needless to say, I'm very happy with this change in the normal status quo, and I hope it represents a trend. If the final moments of the episode are anything to go by, then this may very well be the case. The previous season had a few more problems than I'd like, particularly in regards to the main story arcs, so I'm curious to see if this season improves on the last.

Burn Notice 6.4 Review: "Under the Gun"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

burn_notice_iconWhen the death of a major character is teased in a show’s trailer, it’s often a desperate attempt to raise flagging interest. This time, “Burn Notice” decides to put Sam Axe “Under the Gun,” and it doesn’t really have the desired effect. While giving Bruce Campbell the spotlight is always good value, the result is a generic episode that nudges the plot forward in fits and starts, much like the Charger through most of this.

Eureka 5.13 Review: "Just Another Day"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

eurekasigniconIt almost goes without saying, but this was definitely the most difficult "Eureka" review I've ever had to write. My deep fondness for the show demands a very careful approach to writing the review for what is very likely the very last "Eureka" episode that will ever air. I've spent many lines in the past few reviews lamenting the weaknesses of the fifth season and the unfortunate replacement of the final, six-episode season with only a single episode. But "Eureka" is now over. Was the finale a fitting and satisfying send-off to this beloved sci-fi show?
