Twilight Takes a Huge ‘Bite’ of Weekend Profits as it Rules the Box Office

The opening of Twilight, the film adaptation of the first book of the bestselling four-part Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer, brought in a lot more fans this weekend than anyone expected. Theaters across the country were sold out days in advance, some several weeks, to the midnight and in most cases the following evening showings of the blockbuster movie.  The Summit Entertainment film raked in $70,553,000 opening weekend, much more than the initial projections.   Summit has announced that the sequel, New Moon, is already in the works..

Twilight On DVD

 
After the success of sales of previous releases of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight saga, everyone knew that the DVD release would be big, but no one suspected how big. Never has a DVD release had so much promotion – midnight parties at most store chains around the globe. Fans spent hours gathered at their favorite stores to play games, win prizes, and talk to other fans as they waited until midnight to own the film adaptation of the first book in the series.  Of course that wasn’t all.  Most stores were stocked with tons of new and previously sold out merchandise as well.

Star Trek Lives Up To The Hype

Star Trek fans around the world waited in anticipation for the new Star Trek installment, released last Friday. Some fans questioned it would live up to the hype.  J.J. Abrams, the director, was admittedly never a Star Trek fan.  He made the movie not with the fans in mind, but rather movie-goers in general.  However, this movie has seemed to unite fans and non-fans across the globe, earning $72.5 million opening weekend.

Stargate Universe Takes You Beyond Your Imagination

The Stargate phenomena first started on film in 1994 and then on television in 1997 with Stargate SG-1, and in 2002 was picked up by Syfy (formally Sci Fi) who made it their own and the series continued for a total of ten seasons, as well as some post series movies. The show focused on a team of a soldier, an astrophysicist, a civilian scientist, and an alien, who used a Stargate to travel to planets outside our own solar system. Towards the end of the original series, the scientists of Stargate discovered a use for the eighth chevron on the gate – to travel to Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. Thus became the spin off of Stargate: Atlantis. For years the ninth Chevron was not mentioned, until now. If activated the ninth chevron could take them far beyond that of the Pegasus Galaxy. Stargate Universe was born.

On Kyle XY, Olivero plays the character of Declan McDonough, best friend of Kyle (played by Matt Dallas) and ex-boyfriend of Lori Trager (played by April Matson).

Courtney Cox Dishes on Dirt

Well known for both her work on television and in film, Friends former star Courteney Cox stars in the FX drama Dirt, which will premiere its second season tonight. Dirt is produced by Coquette Productions, a company owned by both Cox and her husband David Arquette. The show, centered around Cox’s character, Lucy Spiller, the editor-in-chief of the tabloid magazine Dirt Now, focuses on Hollywood scandals ripped from the headlines.

Javier Grillo-Marxuach Brings His Comic to TV With "The Middleman"

Javier Grillo-Marxuach, who is most notably known for his work as an award-winning producer and writer on the first two seasons of the hit television show LOST, is about to have his own work debut in a new series for ABC Family. Grillo-Marxuach, whose credits also include working on such shows as Medium, Jake 2.0, and Charmed, among many others, created and wrote the comic book series The Middleman, published by Viper Comics, which will be making its transition to the television series of the same name, premiering on June 16th.

Mary McCormack Plays The Lead in "In Plain Sight"

Mary McCormack stars in USA’s summer series, In Plain Sight, as smart, smart mouthed and very sexy U.S. Marshal, Mary Shannon.  Assigned to the federal witness protection program, Mary must aid the reluctant victims who have had their lives upended by either what they have done, or what they have seen, and find themselves starting new lives and new identities.  This is a job that is part baby sitter, part law enforcement, and sometimes involves being a new best friend.  Along with her partner, Marshal Marshall Mann (Fred Weller), Mary investigates murders, buys groceries, and helps the folk in the witness protection program get through their days, sometimes even buying porn so a witness can choose her new breasts that she has been promised as part of her deal for testifying against her former boss.
