SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Kyra Sedgwick: The Closer's Brenda is "a Seminal Character"

By Karen Moul

The Closer on TNT
The Closer returns to TNT next month for its final six episodes, bringing the Emmy-winner to its long-awaited conclusion. Star Kyra Sedgwick announced her intention to end the show nearly eighteen months ago, giving executive producer James Duff plenty of time to write a satisfying ending.

Sedgwick is aware of Brenda Johnson’s place in television history. “I see her as a significant and seminal character in the lexicon of female characters ever played for a long period of time,” she recently told reporters.

“I think we broke a lot of ground and I think that we were able to consistently weave exciting storylines with deep and resonating character arcs. And I think that that’s something that’s very hard to do, especially in a procedural. And I think that we accomplished that.”

True Blood 5.3 Review: "Whatever I Am You Made Me"

By John Keegan

true_blood_iconThis episode of "True Blood" was an improvement on the previous installment, if only because we had much less of the annoying subplots that threaten to drag this season into the mud. There was less of Terry and his terribly mundane PTSD issues, hardly any of the irritating Reverend Newlin, and even Jason's sad little plot thread didn't annoy overly much.

Evan Handler on "Neccessary Roughness"

Evan HandlerNecessary Roughness follows the life of Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), a psychotherapist as well as single mother, who is hired to be the psychologist for the football team the New York Hawks. The series revolves around her and her patients as they struggle both on and off the field.

This season introduces the owner of the Hawks, Marshall Pittman, played by Evan Handler, who fans may know as Charlie Runkle on Californication, or previously for his role as Harry Goldenblatt on Sex and the City.

Handler recently talked to the media about his role on the show.

Burn Notice 6.2 Review: "Mixed Messages"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys
burn_notice_iconFor its second outing of the season, “Burn Notice” delivers an episode titled ‘Mixed Messages’. While that bore some relation to the action, Jesse’s tap dance with a cartel thug and Fiona’s first days in prison, it also reflects on the season so far, early as it is.

Eureka 5.9 Review: "Smarter Carter"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

eurekasigniconCome to think of it, I'm surprised that it's taken "Eureka" this long to do an episode like this. Carter's role in the show has always been that of the average joe; the guy that the audience can most readily relate to. So considering the show's usual subject matter, it's only natural to imagine a scenario in which Carter's intelligence is artificially boosted. I don't know why I never thought of the idea before, because it's an old staple of the genre, but it makes perfect sense for "Eureka". And the timing couldn't really be better.

Falling Skies 2.2 Review: "Shall We Gather at the River"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran
Falling-Skies-iconI think it's unfortunate that "Shall We Gather at The River" aired so close to the season premiere. Qualitative comparisons inevitably crop up, and they come with immediate judgment since the episodes are clumped so closely together. I thought this was the stronger of the two episodes because there was a singular purpose and drive to the plot within the episode.

Falling Skies 2.1 Review: "Worlds Apart"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran
Falling-Skies-iconThe season premiere of "Falling Skies" split off into two storylines in the wake of Tom Mason's decision to join Karen on one of the alien ships at the end of last season. I think it's a curious decision, albeit a necessary one, to set up what is to come for the members of the 2nd Massachusetts army. We catch up with the ragtag bunch of survivors three months after Tom went on that ship, and instead of staying at a home base like the school last season, the army keeps themselves mobile.

Burn Notice 6.1 Review: "Scorched Earth"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

burn_notice_icon“Burn Notice” has returned and, right from the opening, things have changed. Fiona is no longer Michael's ex (at least one season too late). Jesse is an official member of Team Westen (still haven't figured out his role in the team, but now he does have a place in the credits). But, after evolving into sometime participant and full-time conscience, Maddy is still being dissed as the option to go to only “if you're desperate.” Why do I highlight these changes? Because after that, everything was pretty much the same.

Eric McCormack Stars in TNT's "Perception," Starting 7/9

By Jamie Ruby

Eric McCormackNext month, TNT will be premiering its new series Perception. The show stars Eric McCormack as Dr. Daniel Pierce. Although a paranoid schizophrenic, Pierce works as a professor of neuroscience until he is recruited by the FBI to help solve cases using his unique perspective. Even though sometimes delusional, Pierce is able to see patterns and make connections that others miss. This brilliance of course is also his curse as he frequently hallucinates, but he considers some of his hallucinations a gift.

Many fans will know McCormack as Will Truman on Will & Grace or more recently from his work on The New Adventures of Old Christine. Beside his new series, Eric will also be starring in the film Barricade, due out this fall.

I recently got a chance to talk to McCormack about his work on Perception during a conference call with the digital media.
