SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

The Borgias 2.9 Review: "World of Wonders"

By John Keegan

borgias_iconAs noted repeatedly, the writers make adjustments to the historical record whenever the dramatic license is required to make the story flow in the right direction. That is certainly true in this episode, where various events are rearranged to bring season arcs to their logical resolution. Not only is the matter of Juan's descent handled in the expected fashion, but Savonarola saw his comeuppance far earlier than anticipated.

Lost Girl 2.8 Review: "Death Didn't Become Him"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbNothing lasts forever, and sadly, this is true of "Lost Girl" and its recent run of solid episodes. The show is rarely actively bad, but "Death Didn't Become Him" is the kind of storytelling that's very bland and not compelling, saved only by some interesting subplots. While some people like the unengaging kind of storytelling, "Lost Girl" usually holds itself to a much higher standard.

True Blood 5.1: "Turn! Turn! Turn!"

By John Keegan

true_blood_icon"True Blood" has suffered a bit in the past couple seasons, even if the fourth season was a step in the right direction. The third season was all over the map, notoriously ending with little or no resolution to any of its plot and character threads. The fourth season was more abrupt, promising some massive changes to the status quo. Of course, with Alan Ball still in charge (for now), the usual spinning of wheels is hardly avoided.

Gordon Ramsay Dishes on "Hell's Kitchen" & "Master Chef"

By Daniel Denehy

Gordon RamsayOn June 1st, FOX held a conference call with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, inviting news outlets to ask questions regarding the new seasons of Hell’s Kitchen and Master Chef. Doing well after suffering a back injury at a charity soccer event two days prior, Ramsay called in with an elegant and gracious attitude.

Questions were varied but fun, with outlets asking Ramsay things like whether the experienced chefs of Hell’s Kitchen or the amateur cooks of Master Chef frustrated him more. “Master Chef gives me…I suppose mentoring aspects and then Hell’s Kitchen always reminds me of the first day when I opened my very first restaurant…when the air conditioning went down and every customer was complaining about how hot it was, the food was taking too long to come out of the kitchen, and then I caught a maitre d’ – a maitre d’…walking past a customer swigging out of a bottle of water. I flipped my lid.” An amused Ramsay responded before adding, “Both of them have different identities; two completely different chefs, one amateur, and one professional, so I’m very lucky to have both.”

Exclusive: Caity Lotz Breaks Out in "The Pact"

Exclusive Interview with Caity Lotz of The Pact
Interview by Karen Moul
Written by Karen Moul

Caity Lotz, photo courtesy of Entertainment WeeklyIf you’re looking for a good scare this summer, check out The Pact, the first feature-length film from writer/director Nicolas McCarthy. Based on McCarthy’s short film of the same name, The Pact takes the classic haunted house story and gives it a dark twist.

Caity Lotz stars as Annie, a young woman who has spent most of her life trying to forget an unhappy childhood. Summoned home, Annie arrives to find that her older sister has gone missing.

“She has basically been avoiding her past,” explains Lotz. “That’s been the goal of her life and now all of a sudden she has to go home to deal with [the death of her abusive mother].

“Once she gets home, things start getting really weird and her sister disappears. And all of a sudden there’s a ghost in her childhood home - who she thinks is her mom - and she tries to find her sister and figure out what happened.”

And that is when things take a very sinister turn. What might at first seem like standard fare – psychic, Ouija board, bumps in the night – soon gives way to a visually compelling, psychological thriller.
