SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

The Dark Knight Rises: Yes

Dark Knight RisesYes. There's the answer that you're looking for. Go see it. If you liked the previous movies in the Dark Knight Trilogy you'll enjoy this, if you haven't seen them, it's still a good movie. Oh, you wanted more than that? Alright, I can elaborate a little, but I'll warn you now, anyone who hasn't already seen Dark Knight Rises yet may want to wait to read the rest of this review. I will stick by my policy of giving no spoilers, but a clever/perceptive reader may be able to infer one from my comments. You have been warned.

The Newsroom 1.4 Review: "I'll Try to Fix You"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

newsroom_icon“The Newsroom” pivots from the political to the personal, but, as the early feminists warned, the personal is political. That’s one of the lessons Will McAvoy learns as his attempts to widen his social sphere run into the buzzsaw of Leona Lansing’s machinations. His “mission to civilize” is foundering; her campaign to discredit is gaining traction. And, while they continue to make all the right moves on-air, behind the scenes, they’re the gang that couldn’t shoot straight.

True Blood 5.7 Review: "In the Beginning"

By John Keegan

true_blood_iconThe second half of the season is clearly meant to kick off with a huge shift in the fortunes of many characters, especially in light of the coup within the Authority. Unfortunately, the same old refrain holds sway: the stronger elements are watered down by far too many subplots that hold little to no interest, even to devoted fans.

Lost Girl 2.14 Review: "Midnight Lamp"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbFrom minute one it seemed like this episode would crash and burn, between the villain who lacked any charisma and the show's best character taking a road trip and only showing up via text messages. So it's slightly amazing that when all's said and done, this proved to be a fun romp of an instalment with enough seeds and threads of ongoing story arcs to satisfy the audience, no matter what they watch "Lost Girl" for.

Abraham Lincoln: Not One for the Ages, But One for the Weekend

By Daniel Denehy

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterSurprisingly I don't actually have a lot to say about this one. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is certainly a unique book concept, but as a movie simply an exercise in the melodramatic. Rather, I should say a glorious exercise in the melodramatic. As another tid-bit of background about your reviewer, I love melodramas. I find them supremely entertaining, and even sometimes moving. This melodrama leads more towards the prior.
