The Walking Dead 2.11: Judge, Jury and Executioner

It was another slow week on Herschel’s farm as our little band of survivors hemmed and hawed and argued about what to do with Randall. There is no doubt that Randall’s people are a nasty bunch, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned this season it’s that the living are just as dangerous as the dead. We just wish it wouldn’t take this group two weeks to make every decision.
While Randall was the center of everyone’s attention, the action actually revolved around Dale, who spent the day trying to convince the gang that killing Randall would be a mistake. His role on the show has always been to provide the voice of morality, and he really went for this week.
It was interesting to see how the group responded. Most preferred to let Rick make the tough decision. It’s a no-win situation, because time and again we’ve seen them ask him to lead and then turn on him when things don’t go well, which only feeds Rick’s self-doubt. In these situations, he could take a lesson from Shane. Say what you want about Shane, but right or wrong he makes quick decisions and never doubts himself, always certain that he’s made the right call.

Ringer 1.16 Review: "You're Too Pretty to Go to Jail"

This episode was full of characters standing around, talking. Which is not at all surprising being that the show is a soap opera playing in primetime, and daytime soaps have many scenes of just characters talking instead of taking action. It's not really all that different from what this show has been doing all season, but my interest in what happens to all of these characters continues to decline.

This episode felt like an attempt to distance the show from the largely self-contained nature of the previous episode with the Ames brothers. It did return to addressing the larger story arc, only to oddly take a step back from a solution that was obvious from the start. That indicates the show might not be willing to change its status quo and is still sidelining a character who might factor very much into the narrative. Of course, the show has so de-emphasized character development at this point that even if she were to somehow come back, there's little chance viewers would care about what happens to her and how she impacts everyone else on it.

One thing fans and critics love about The Voice is the speed with which the show eliminates contestants, and the battle rounds are where the action happens. This week twelve people sang and six went home.
Some of the contestants struggled with nerves, a few had pitch problems, but everyone laid it on the line and a few even blew us away. The epic battle of the night was Jesse vs. Anthony, these guys are both incredible singers. It was a shame they had to face off so early, it would have been great to see them both in the finals. But this marvelous performance established Jesse as a front runner and at this point in the competition he’s the man to beat.
After the show, the contestants talked with SciFi Vision and other media outlets about working with their guest mentors and learning to sing a duet.
The Voice airs Mondays at 8 pm on NBC.

Once upon a time, in the far-away mists of TV history, before Lord Hobo and Princess Showtime liberated content from the shackles of the Seasons and the FCC, weekends were a very different place. People actually stayed home on Saturday nights, rapt before CBS’ lineup of killer comedies. And, on Sunday night, families finished off the weekend with the wholesome entertainments of “The Wonderful World of Disney.” The current “Once Upon A Time” initially presented a more sophisticated update. However, recent evidence suggests they are now seeking Walt’s mantle. It’s too bad, then, that they’re closer to evoking the legacy of Sid and Marty Krofft.

Episode of "Lost Girl"' with the return of old characters and dangling plot threads, some big new developments, and all of it wrapped around a very strong case of the week. It's something to behold, just how far the show has come from its fun, silly fanservice-laden pilot.

The River 1.6 Review: "Doctor Emmet Cole"

“The River” is the kind of series that can be polarizing. As I mentioned the last time I reviewed the show, I think it fails on the basis of its central gimmick. Certainly the first few episodes relied so much on the “found footage” approach, and the jump scares that come with it, that the story was often buried. It’s no shock that the series has lost nearly half of its original audience, and it’s lucky to still have the chance to be seeing the end of its short first season run.

The biggest problem with “Alcatraz”, from my point of view, is the repetitive nature of the premise. We all know how things are going to play out: one (or more) of the 63’s will return, they will start killing people in roughly the same fashion as the methods that led to their incarceration, Rebecca and Diego will lead the hunt that eventually leads to the capture or demise of the main subject. The rest is just variations on a theme.

When Will took his punishment from the bar association, I was kind of expecting for him to miss the work and be one of those guys who couldn't function unless he was working. This episode makes a lot of hay out of that situation, sometimes amusingly so when it involves his two older sisters meddling into his affairs. Diane and her handling of the firm with Will out of the picture (temporarily?) then suddenly comes into sharp focus.
