SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Spartacus: Vengeance 2.6 Review: "Chosen Path"

By John Keegan

spartacus-posterOn the heels of the previous episode’s fiery and bloody massacre, marking the apparent mid-point of the season thus far, it makes sense to take a step back and explore the depths of the fallout. In the process, the writers remind us of the cardinal rule of the “Spartacus” franchise: underneath all the sex and violence, the strength of the series is the character development.

Grimm 1.13 Review: "Three Coins in a Fuschbau"

By John Keegan

Grimm-2Those familiar with the game know that new television series, especially those for traditional broadcast networks, are generally given an initial 13-episode order. Based on the strength of those initial episodes (primarily in the ratings, if we want to be honest), the network can then pick up an option for the “back nine”. While “Grimm” received that honor earlier in the season, it’s pretty clear that the producers didn’t do much to adjust the original plans for the initial order.

Awake 1.1 Review: "Pilot"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

awakereviewiconIt's easy to like "Awake" for its intriguing premise: Detective Michael Britten (Jason Issacs) is experiencing two different realities following a car accident. In one, his wife survived the accident, but his son did not. In the other, the reverse is true. Such a complicated overall plot could invite confusion from the audience. Judging from the pilot, that isn't a problem.

Merlin 4.9 Review: "Lancelot du Lac"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

merlinOne of the more well-known elements of Arthurian legend is the forbidden romance between Sir Lancelot and Guinevere. Given the generally family-friendly nature of "Merlin", this story isn't something I ever expected to appear in the show. But "Merlin" continues to surprise me, from time to time, with its unexpected forays into more mature subject matter. Still, I was a little apprehensive about how well they could handle this storyline and make it work.

Ringer 1.15 Review: "P.S., You're an Idiot"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

ringer_iconThis show has settled into a particular pattern that strangely discards what makes for a compelling mystery in lieu of throwing out a bunch of twists that make little sense. This has been a consistent problem throughout the bulk of the season so I don't want to sound like I'm repeating myself. Both the plot and characters are completely lifeless, so it's hard to care about what happens in an episode. In fact, the episode caps off with a reveal that completely changes a core facet about a main character. It's jarring, and it put into question who I should even root for now to succeed on this show.

Adrian Pasdar Talks "The Lying Game"

By Lynn Tackitt

Adrian PasdarIn Adrian Pasdar's career, he has played many roles with many different characteristics, but he seems to excel at the suave, sinister type, that although he might have a good side, the darker side is the more intriguing half. He often plays the man you love to distrust, but as you read the interview below, you will find out that he is a man that looks for the fun roles to do and tries to balance his career with his family life.

Pasdar is a man who at the end of this season finale on The Lying Games isn't jumping straight into another project, but jumping into quality time with his kids and family. He sheds a little light onto what goes on the set of The Lying Games, his feelings for his co-stars, and teases us with what we can expect on a most anticipated season two.

B.D. Wong & Cherry Jones Talk "Awake," Premiering Tonight

By Jamie Ruby

AwakeTonight, NBC premieres the new series Awake, which follows the life of Detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs), who doesn't know when he is awake or asleep. In a car accident in one reality he lost his wife, while in the other reality he lost his son. Britten refuses to make a choice of which is real, or it would mean accepting that a loved one is dead.

Britten is forced to see a therapist in both realities: in the world where his wife survived, he talks to Dr. Lee, played by B.D. Wong, about the loss of his son. In the other, he talks about losing his wife with Dr. Evans, played by Cherry Jones. Both therapists go at Britten's problems with different angles, which makes for interesting sessions on the show.

Wong and Jones talked to the digital media earlier in the week about the new series.
