SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Exclusive: A Discovery of Witches' Steven Cree on Portraying Gallowglass

Steven CreeSaturday an all-new episode of A Discovery of Witches premieres on AMC+, Shudder, and Sundance Now in the U.S. The third season of the series is based on the final book in the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness, The Book of Life. In the television series, Steven Cree portrays vampire Gallowglass de Clermont.

Cree was unfamiliar with the book series when he first got the role, but once he found out there was a such a large fan base, he did feel some pressure. “The expectations for Gallowglass were huge,” said Cree during an exclusive interview with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision, “and the Internet was littered with the book fans’ dream casting, and it was all people who were about five feet taller than me and incredibly muscular, because his physicality's mentioned in the book a lot. So, I was aware that people had a very, very strong image of who he was.”

Getting it right was important to the actor. “I absolutely just wanted to do the best job that I could whilst also trying to service the fan base as well, because none of these shows are anything without the fan base.”

Alan Tudyk and Corey ReynoldsTonight, Syfy premieres the second season of the hit series, Resident Alien. With the fate of humanity in the balance, Asta realizes that Harry needs to care about more humans that just herself if he is going to care enough to save the rest of the planet, and she tries to get him to make some new friends. “He's trying to make friends, or he wants to,” said Tudyk to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a roundtable interview with the press. “I think he'd be happy just living with pizza and Law & Order and not really dealing with anybody else except Asta, but…he needs more friends, and he needs to go out into the world.”

However, that’s hard to do if people are after you. “Also, the world is coming after him,” continued Tudyk. “Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) is coming after him, and their friendship is very unlikely at the beginning, because Harry happened to inhabit…the body of a murderer. So, now all the evidence points rightly to Harry, even though Harry didn't do the murdering.”

Exclusive: Alex Kingston Talks A Discovery of Witches & Doctor Who

***The following interview contains spoilers for 3.01***

Alex KingstonSaturday, an all-new episode of the series A Discovery of Witches premieres in the US. In the third season of the series, which is based on the third book in the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness, Diana (Teresa Palmer) and Matthew (Matthew Goode) return from time walking in Elizabethan England to continue their quest for the Book of Life.

Alex Kingston, who plays the role of Sarah Bishop, Diana’s aunt, didn’t know anything about the novels before taking on the role and was a little bit skeptical at first, but once she started reading, she was intrigued. “I thought it was a very good kind of parallel to the lives and the world that we find ourselves in as humans,” said Kingston during an exclusive interview with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision, “which is sort of the disparity between ethnicities, the lack of inclusion, the fear in some cases of what people might consider different cultures, and that was all represented within the creature world as well. So, I thought that that was actually an interesting take to follow.”

One of the things the actress really enjoyed about the role of Sarah was that she could just let it all go. “She's sort of in sloppy clothes,” the actress explained, “…It was kind of fab. I didn't have to care about looking ‘just so’ like so many characters for women, you know, executives or whatever; their hair has to be straightened, and they have to look super ‘on.’ I didn't need to for Sarah, so that was actually fabulous.”

Double Take: Tatyana Ali Stars as Twins in Lifetime’s Vanished: Searching for My Sister

Vanished: Searching For My SisterLifetime’s series of Saturday night thrillers continues this weekend with Vanished: Searching for My Sister.  Tatyana Ali (Love That Girl) stars in dual roles as Jada and Kayla, identical twins who look alike but couldn’t be more different. When wild child Kayla disappears, responsible Jada reports her missing and waits for the police to do their thing. But when the investigation stalls, Jada matters into her own hands. Posing as her missing sister, she searches for leads  - and gets more than she bargained for.

While playing twins was an intriguing prospect, that’s not what drew Ali to the project. “I was so excited when I read the script,” she told journalists last week, “the fact that it’s based on a true story and that this really happened, that a woman really went undercover as her twin, all of that was so exciting. I love the notion of not allowing your loved one to remain a statistic or not be cared about, that someone would fight so hard to make sure that her sister, who has been through addiction, been through all these things, that her life mattered.”

***Warning: This story contains major spoilers for the series finale of The Expanse.***

Ty Franck, Daniel Abraham, & Naren ShankarThe Expanse
’s series finale is out today on Prime Video, and it doesn’t disappoint. The episode is chock full of the thrilling action scenes, narrow escapes and quality effects we’ve come to expect from this fantastic series. And when the war for control of the Belt is finally over, the conflict ends with a deft political maneuver that would make Chrisjen Avasarala proud.

SciFi Vision spoke with the show’s creative team – series creators Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham and showrunner Naren Shankar – about captain Camina Drummer (Cara Gee)’s key role this season. Drummer lost everything: her home, her friends, her family, and everything she thought she knew about the Belt – before becoming a key player in the solar system’s new order.

“One of the terrible things in fiction is being a protagonist,” Abraham deadpanned. “Things never go well for you.”

***The video part of the interview contains spoilers for 6.06***

Nadine Nicole & Wes ChathamOver the past three seasons, fans of The Expanse have watched Amos, played by Wes Chatham, grow into a friend and mentor to Clarissa, played by Nadine Nicole, much as Naomi (Dominique Tipper) was to him back in season one. Clarissa's relationship with captain James Holden (Steven Strait) is complicated (remember when she framed him for mass murder?), but she’s making a real effort to settle in with the Roci crew. So, how much is her relationship with Amos responsible for her ability to set aside revenge and become a better person?

“I would say most of it, if not all,” said actress Nadine Nicole in a recent exclusive interview with SciFi Vision. “She'd pretty much given up on any second chances until someone thought that she might deserve that and gave it to her.”
