SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Sherlock 2.1 Review: "A Scandal in Belgravia"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

sherlockFirst off, a little introduction for those that haven't read my reviews for the previous season of "Sherlock". I'll get no points for originality for saying this, but I consider myself to be a pretty big fan of Sherlock Holmes. In particularly, I have a deep appreciation for the original stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself, as well as some of the later adaptations. I greatly enjoyed the first Guy Ritchie film for what it was (sadly, I have yet to see the sequel, which I hope to remedy soon), though many fans thought it took too many liberties with the source material.

Game of Thrones 2.6 Review: "The Old Gods and the New"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

Game_of_Thrones_iconI may have said something similar in a previous review, but if there's one thing that "Game of Thrones" does exceptionally well, it's creating that sense of a downward spiral; that things are about to go from bad to worse. This is true as a description of the entire show, but it's also especially true in individual scenes, such as this episode's opening scene, in which Theon captures Winterfell. If anything could be called a point of no return for Theon, this would have to be it. Even if there is to be some sort of redemptive arc, there's only so much that something like that could accomplish.

Supernatural 7.21 Review: "Reading is Fundamental"

By John Keegan

supernatural_iconFans of "Supernatural" got a boost before this episode with the announcement of an impending eighth season. Not that this turn of events is particularly shocking at this point, but who ever thought that the show fans had to fight to keep on the air in the early days would make it eight seasons?

Fringe 4.21 Review: "Brave New World: Part I"

By John Keegan
Fringe-Glyphs-meu-anjo-17630623-160-160As the first part of a massive season finale, it's a bit difficult to evaluate this in isolation. There are plenty of items that will likely see resolution in the finale proper, and might even spill over into the beginning of the fifth and final season. Even so, I think it's possible to look at this episode alone and still come away with a number of highlights.

The Secret Circle 1.21 Review: "Prom"

By John Keegan

the-secret-circle-iconI'll give the writers credit for being relatively clever; the characters constantly joke about how their prom activities don't exactly match the typical teenage experience. And for that matter, they talk about how they are ultimately outsiders that will never have a normal life. I'd be tempted to invite them to Mystic Falls, where they would blend in just fine.

Awake 1.10 Review: "Slack Water"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

awakereviewiconIt must be intentional on the writers' part to de-emphasize Rex and the world where he lives on instead of Hannah. He's absent yet again in this episode, and that means Michael focuses on a routine double homicide investigation. I mean, the case has a nice initial fake-out with who the intended target of the shooter was supposed to be, but it proves inconsequential to the show's overall arc.

Not "Avengers" the Movie; Comic Book the Movie

By Daniel Denehy

AvengersIn the same way that Lord of the Rings is an epic fantasy movie, to date there are two epic super hero movies and that's The Watchmen and now The Avengers. The difference between the two can actually be compared to characters their parent companies. Whereas The Watchmen is like Batman, dark and broody, The Avengers is more like Iron Man, charismatic and fun. Yet, despite not having boundary-pushing moral questions, the latter is no less epic than the former.
