SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Alcatraz 1.10 Review: "Sonny Burnett"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

alcatraz_iconThis episode felt like an attempt to distance the show from the largely self-contained nature of the previous episode with the Ames brothers. It did return to addressing the larger story arc, only to oddly take a step back from a solution that was obvious from the start. That indicates the show might not be willing to change its status quo and is still sidelining a character who might factor very much into the narrative. Of course, the show has so de-emphasized character development at this point that even if she were to somehow come back, there's little chance viewers would care about what happens to her and how she impacts everyone else on it.

"The Voice:" Battle Rounds Begin!

By Karen Moul

The VoiceOne thing fans and critics love about The Voice is the speed with which the show eliminates contestants, and the battle rounds are where the action happens. This week twelve people sang and six went home.

Some of the contestants struggled with nerves, a few had pitch problems, but everyone laid it on the line and a few even blew us away. The epic battle of the night was Jesse vs. Anthony, these guys are both incredible singers. It was a shame they had to face off so early, it would have been great to see them both in the finals. But this marvelous performance established Jesse as a front runner and at this point in the competition he’s the man to beat.

After the show, the contestants talked with SciFi Vision and other media outlets about working with their guest mentors and learning to sing a duet.

The Voice
airs Mondays at 8 pm on NBC.

Once Upon a Time 1.14 Review: "Dreamy"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

once_upon_a_timeOnce upon a time, in the far-away mists of TV history, before Lord Hobo and Princess Showtime liberated content from the shackles of the Seasons and the FCC, weekends were a very different place. People actually stayed home on Saturday nights, rapt before CBS’ lineup of killer comedies. And, on Sunday night, families finished off the weekend with the wholesome entertainments of “The Wonderful World of Disney.” The current “Once Upon A Time” initially presented a more sophisticated update. However, recent evidence suggests they are now seeking Walt’s mantle. It’s too bad, then, that they’re closer to evoking the legacy of Sid and Marty Krofft.

Lost Girl 1.8 Review: "Vexed"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbTo borrow an expression from one of the Critical Myth team's favourite shows, this episode feels like first proper Wham! Episode of "Lost Girl"' with the return of old characters and dangling plot threads, some big new developments, and all of it wrapped around a very strong case of the week. It's something to behold, just how far the show has come from its fun, silly fanservice-laden pilot.

Exlusive interview with Colin Ferguson of Eureka and Like Father
Interview by Jamie Ruby
Written by Jamie Ruby

Colin FergusonColin Ferguson is probably best known for his role as Sheriff Jack Carter on Syfy's Eureka, which will be returning for its final season on April 16th. Fortunately the series is not the end for the actor. Ferguson has been cast in the lead role in the upcoming Fox series Like Father. The actor recently sat down with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision for an exclusive interview to talk about Eureka, as well as his new series.

The River 1.6 Review: "Doctor Emmet Cole"

By John Keegan

the-river-icon“The River” is the kind of series that can be polarizing. As I mentioned the last time I reviewed the show, I think it fails on the basis of its central gimmick. Certainly the first few episodes relied so much on the “found footage” approach, and the jump scares that come with it, that the story was often buried. It’s no shock that the series has lost nearly half of its original audience, and it’s lucky to still have the chance to be seeing the end of its short first season run.

Alcatraz 1.9 Review: "The Ames Brothers"

By John Keegan

Alcatraz-Wallpapers-alcatraz-tv-show-22286230-1600-900The biggest problem with “Alcatraz”, from my point of view, is the repetitive nature of the premise. We all know how things are going to play out: one (or more) of the 63’s will return, they will start killing people in roughly the same fashion as the methods that led to their incarceration, Rebecca and Diego will lead the hunt that eventually leads to the capture or demise of the main subject. The rest is just variations on a theme.

The Good Wife 3.16 Review: "After the Fall"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

thegoodwife-iconWhen Will took his punishment from the bar association, I was kind of expecting for him to miss the work and be one of those guys who couldn't function unless he was working. This episode makes a lot of hay out of that situation, sometimes amusingly so when it involves his two older sisters meddling into his affairs. Diane and her handling of the firm with Will out of the picture (temporarily?) then suddenly comes into sharp focus.

Being Human (US) 2.8 Review: "I've Got You Under My Skin"

By John Keegan

Being-Human-icon-being-human-us-17425916-150-150Things continue to march along their dark little paths in this latest episode of “Being Human”, and I couldn’t be happier. What makes it work is the relatively tight continuity; everything that happens in this episode ties back into elements that were introduced earlier in the season. That makes the drama a lot more involving, to say the least.

The Walking Dead 2.11 Review: "Judge, Jury, Executioner"

By John Keegan and Gregg Wright

The-Walking-Dead-iconI hadn't really realized until just this episode how much of a chore it's become for me to watch "The Walking Dead". Anymore, my appreciation of the show seems to be more a matter of begrudging respect than actual enjoyment. I tried to ask myself why this was, but the answers didn't come easily. What next came to mind was the realization that this has been the case for much longer than I would previously have been able to admit. "The Walking Dead" has coasted for a long time the sheer novelty of being a well-produced TV zombie saga. But does that mean that "The Walking Dead" is bad?
