SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Awake 1.6 Review: "That's Not My Penguin"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

awakereviewiconMichael's mental deterioration is accelerating at a rate that I never expected. At the very least, I thought he would grow more comfortable with the two worlds he inhabits before the rug is pulled out from under him. This episode proves that he is losing the grip he has on the situation. Being in a high-stress job like police detective doesn't help things.

Person of Interest 1.19 Review: "Flesh and Blood"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

person_of_interest_iconOne of my favorite catch phrases from '80s TV is Hannibal Smith's, “I love it when a plan comes together.” What served as self-satisfied punctuation for the A-Team's campier antics can now sum up the latest, far more serious “Person of Interest”. The season-ending arc has begun, and if the three episodes to follow live up to this opener, an already impressive first season will rocket into the critical stratosphere.

Justified 3.12 Review: "Coalition"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran
Justified_iconRobert Quarles just can't seem to die. Multiple people in different parts of Kentucky and even another state want him dead, yet he keeps going like a cockroach. It's amazing, really, given that he's descended to being a drug-addled rogue psychopath. That seems to make him even more dangerous.

Ringer 1.20 Review: "If You're Just an Evil Bitch, Then Get Over It"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran
ringer_iconI should give credit where it's due: Catherine is a much better schemer and master manipulator than Siobhan ever was. All Siobhan ever wanted was to get money to run away with her lover, and maybe stick it to her twin sister and ex-husband as she leaves their lives permanently. Catherine has much clearer motives, goals, and methods.

The "Awake" Advertiser Project

Fans of Awake help with ratings and getting the word it out about the great new series in whatever ways they can. I recently found out about The Awake Advertiser Project on Twitter. In edition to trying to get the show trending with #Awake, take some time to send the advertiser your thanks!

via @awakefancentral:

Last week our Awake Advertiser was the Campbell's Soup Company and we got a great response for our first week of this project. Hopefully, we can grow from last week of the project and get to be known.

The Awake Advertiser Project is a project to let advertisers, NBC, fans, and the rest of the world know about the fan dedication of Awake. Every week during the episode (Thursdays on NBC at 10/9c) we tweet a certain advertiser and thank them for advertising on the show.

This week's advertiser is Chevrolet. If you paid really close attention to the episode, you would have seen that Chevrolet paid for product placement in the show. When an advertiser pays for product placement, they deserve a LOT of appreciation.

So tonight, get on to Twitter and tweet @Chevrolet thanking them for advertising on Awake and how it has improved your opinion of them. Be sure that when you are tweeting them, use the hashtag #AwakeAdvertiser, and do NOT just retweet a tweet to them. Writing your own tweet to them does MUCH more!

Hornsby and Lee talk "Grimm"

By Karen Moul

On last week's episode of Grimm, Adalind and Captain Renard added a new weapon to their arsenal - the chocolate chip cookie. The tasty treat contained a Wesen love potion that piqued Hank's interest in Adalind and had an unfortunate side effect on the cookie-stealing Sgt. Wu.

This week, Scifi Vision spoke with actors Russell Horsnby (Hank) and Reggie Lee (Sgt. Wu) to get the lowdown on the poisoned pastry.

"That chocolate chip cookie had some magical wonderment in it," joked Hornsby. The result is "I'm falling deeper and deeper in love, and so we’re going to see Hank fall for Adelind Schade and they’re developing a relationship unbeknownst to Nick."

None of this is good news for Hank, said Hornsby. "I think there’s going to be some hairy situations between the two of them where Nick has to come to the aid of his partner because he’s in danger."

It's not good news for Sgt. Wu either. Remember when he ate the stuffing out of his couch cushion? Actor Reggie Lee told us "You'll see in the next few episodes how much more scenery I chew up."

"There’s a lot more to come, and I (do) more things. I literally chew more scenery."

Once Upon a Time 1.18 Review: "The Stable Boy"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

once_upon_a_timeOne of my all-time favorite films is “The Stunt Man”, Richard Rush's defiantly independent paean to film-making and the blurry line between fantasy and reality (hmmm, sound familiar?). So, the announcement that Barbara Hershey, that film's female lead, would play Regina's mother, Cora, was one I greeted with great relish and anticipation. What I didn't anticipate was an episode where the show's creators, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, step in and take a major corrective yank on the show's tiller. After the mid-season doldrums, there's promise of much smoother, swifter sailing ahead.

Grimm 1.15 Review: "Island of Dreams"

By John Keegan

Grimm-2It looks like the writers for “Grimm” are trying to step back and reintegrate concepts and plot threads from earlier in the season, and the result is a largely stand-alone episode that doesn’t quite have the same punch as more recent offerings. There are some signs that Adalind’s presence will finally amount to something, but this is very much a transitional episode, rather than a payoff.

Mad Man 5.3 Review: "Tea Leaves"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

mad_menFear of the unknown drives nearly every character in this episode. It's entitled "Tea Leaves," which I think is a clever way for Matthew Weiner and his writers to give out the message that everyone in the Mad Men world cannot accurately predict the future. The people in charge at the agency are slow on the uptake to change, with the young guard always eager to replace the old, and keep the struggling company from going under. Change is coming for them, and if they don't adapt, they will die.
