James Roday on "WWE Tough Enough" & Season 6 of "Psych"

By Jamie Ruby

James Roday James Roday is probably best known for his role of Shawn Spencer on the television series, Psych, which he has also written and directed for, but he has also previously worked on other series such as First Years, Providence, and more recently Love Bites. He has also done work in film, starring in Rolling Kansas, and appearing in other movies such as The Dukes of Hazzard and Gamer. He also cowrote the screenplay for the movie Skin Walkers.

Roday recently sat down with the digital media to discuss season six of Psych, as well as his upcoming part on USA Network's reality series, WWE Tough Enough.

Roday first studied theater in college and was lucky to get a break quickly after. "I went to NYU and studied theater. Somehow I made it through all four years and, you know, started the thing that you do when you’re done with college and horrified that real life is starting. I had a bartending job in New York, I got an agent a very tiny agency, and - that mostly represented opera singers, if I remember correctly.

"And started getting sent out, mostly television stuff, and you know I have one of those 1 in 100,000 stories where I actually got the first job that I auditioned for, which you know it was a TV Pilot, which sent me to L.A., which you know ultimately got me a much bigger agent, and then I was sort of off and running.

"It’s not the most popular story to tell in a room full of actors, but the truth is I got really, really lucky and I was very blessed and, you know, after about a year of living the life of a struggling actor in New York, I was in L.A. with a job. So...it kind of worked out for me."

Contamination 2011 - The Sequel - Dates & Headliners Announced

Contamination 2011 The Sequel - Dates & Headliners Announced
Eric Roberts & "The Boondock Saints" Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and David Dela Rocco Headline Contamination 2011 – St. Louis' Only Horror, Sci-Fi and Pop Culture Convention – June 24-26, 2011

(**Note that although not included in the press release, Cody Deal of "Almighty Thor" will also be in attendance according to the site**)

St. Louis, MO – November 10, 2010 – Dyer Straits Productions announce the dates and current headliners for Contamination 2011 The Sequel, their highly anticipated follow-up to St. Louis' first horror, sci-fi and pop-culture convention under one roof. The Sheraton Westport Chalet will host the event June 24th – 26th, 2011. Actor Eric Roberts and "The Boondock Saints" Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and David Dela Rocco will headline.

Eric Roberts, one of Hollywood's edgier, more intriguing characters, was most recently seen this summer in Sylvester Stallone's action hit "The Expendables." Among his numerous credits, too lengthy to mention, he had a memorable role in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" as Salvatore Maroni and is probably best known as "Paulie" in "The Pope of Greenwich Village." He has also been a recurring character on popular soap opera "The Young and the Restless" this year.

Cult favorites from "The Boondock Saints" and its sequel have been attracting long lines at conventions this year and will be a highly anticipated addition to the Contamination family for St. Louis fans. Sean Patrick Flanery, one half of the "McManus brothers," can be seen as "Bobby" in the latest in the "Saw" series, "Saw 3D." Appearing in numerous film and television series, Sean is probably best known for his roles in "Powder" and "The Young Indiana Jones" outside of his role as Conor McManus. Norman Reedus, the other half of the "McManus brothers," has a featured role as "Daryl Dixon" in the much buzzed about AMC series "The Walking Dead." "8MM," "Blade II," "The Notorious Bettie Page" and "American Gangster" are just a few of the many films and television projects he has on his resume. David Della Rocco made a name for himself as the unforgettable "Rocco" in "The Boondock Saints." A childhood friend of "The Boondock Saints" writer/director Troy Duffy, he is also a classically trained actor.

Tyler Robinson: No regrets leaving "The Voice" Plus Mahoney, Ramsey, & Dawson

By Karen Moul

The VoiceThe Voice
has entered the battle rounds, with the first four contestants eliminated in head-to-head singing competition. Although it's tough to be among the first to go, Tyler Robinson has no regrets.

A fan favorite for his open and quirky personality, Tyler drew a tough assignment when coach Blake Shelton pitted him against country singer Patrick Thomas. During the episode, Tyler struggled a bit at first with an unfamiliar song, Elvis Presley's "Burning Love."

"The song was so far away from anything I've ever sang in my life before. That was the first hurdle that I had to go over," says Tyler.

But it was a challenge he could accept. "It's a competition. They want to push us to be our best and to make us work really hard because if you don't do that then what's the point of the competition? I was obviously given a song that was really far out of my box and I think I took it and I really did my best with it.

"Most people who cover Elvis either end up sounding like Elvis or like karaoke," he continues. "And I'm not saying that Patrick sounded like that because he sounded really great. But I just think that I did my best with it and I was actually really happy with the song choice after working with it.

"I couldn't have been happier with my performance," Tyler adds. And the other coaches seemed to agree, as Christina, Cee Lo, and Adam all indicated they would have awarded Tyler the win. But the only opinion that counted was Blake's, and he chose Patrick.

The Voice: Tension Mounts During the Battle Rounds - Colon, Nakia, Robinson, & McClellan

By Karen Moul

The VoiceThis week's episode of The Voice continues with the battle rounds – two artists sing the same song and one goes home. If the blind audition was stressful, the battle rounds escalate the tension to a new level as the contestants battle each other head-to-head.

Tyler Robinson says "It's a whole different game with the battle round. Now that everyone can see you it's still about the voice, but it's [also] about performance quality, it's about your look, it's about everything now.

"And the performance quality just has to be really high because that's how you're going to win something like this."

Javier Colon, an early favorite to win the entire contest, is also feeling the pressure. "You have to have your game at a raised level basically at all times," he says. "You just have to give your 100% to 110% every single time you step on stage. It's game time and you know that you could go home at any point. So you just have to make sure that you are your absolute best."

"The Voice": Fierce But Friendly Competition: Davis, Jenkins, Rey, & Thomas

By Karen Moul

The VoiceWhat distinguishes The Voice from other talent competitions, such as American Idol or America's Got Talent?

For starters, the celebrity judges aren't judges at all, they're coaches. In the first two weeks, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Maroon 5's Adam Levine drafted their teams based solely on singing ability. In the next phase of the show, the coaches will groom their singers but will also pit them against each other in head-to-head battles, cutting their teams down to the strongest vocalists.

The Voice is also distinguished by not pretending to be about raw, undiscovered talent. The creators make no apologies for including contestants who have already released albums or sung professionally. The most recognizable performer is Frenchie Davis, a contestant on season two of American Idol who has also performed on Broadway. Javier Colon has released two albums with Capitol Records, and Kelsey Rey was a YouTube sensation. But don't consider them favorites to win – they're up against an array of talented newcomers who wowed the audience, and at this early stage the competition is wide open.
