SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Exclusive: Mark Ghanimé Talks Helix Season Two

Mark GhaniméTonight another new episode of Helix airs on Syfy. The season has been full of shocks and twists. This season Sergio Balleseros, played by Mark Ghanimé, has still been working at Ilaria, but he has been working with Julia Walker (Kyra Zagorsky) to find a way to stop them from committing genocide in an attempt to control the population.

Last week on Helix, Balleseros fell from a bell tower after having been pushed off by Sister Amy (Alison Louder), and viewers were left to debate his fate.

Yesterday Ghanimé talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about his work on the show and his character's journey.

Balleseros loyalties have continued to change this season. Ghanimé talked a bit about what thinks really brought the changes on, since there weren't any flashbacks. "I don't think it had to do with Julia. I think it had to do with what Hatake (Hiroyuki Sanada) was doing with the kids in season one and my relationship with Anana (Luciana Carro). That kind of got me going on this better path, and I think I linked up with Julia because it afforded me the opportunity to get in on the inside. Just like she was using me for whatever reason, Balleseros wasn't going to just be someone's whipping boy again, but he developed feelings for her, and he developed care towards her, and as they worked together more and spent more time together, he wanted to take care of her and make sure the mission got done."

Maddie Walker & Adanna Duru Leave American Idol

American IdolEarlier in the week the Top 11 contestants of American Idol was cut down to 9 since the judges used the save last week. The two contestants America sent home were Maddie Walker and Adanna Duru. It's not yet known which of the two girls had more votes.

Yesterday the singers talked to the digital media about their time on the show and their plans moving forward.

The two talked to SciFi Vision about the best advice they were given by the judges. Duru said, "I'd have to say that my favorite piece of advice was control, and being completely in control of everything that you're doing on stage, in control of yourself, and being confident in everything that you're doing, because if you don't believe in what you're doing, then no one else will."

Walker added, "I think mine for sure would be trust. You really just have to trust in your ability and trust in yourself that you will do what you're meant to do and everything will work out the way you've practiced and planned, and I think that's key. You really do just have to trust yourself and others."

Michael Ealy Joins the Cast of The Following

Michael EalyMonday, FOX airs an all-new episode of The Following. The upcoming episode will introduce the new villain on the series, Theo, played by Michael Ealy (Think Like a Man Too, Almost Human). The actor talked early in the week to the media about his work on the show.

Ealy talked to SciFi Vision about playing a villain on The Following and if he prefers playing one type of character over the other. “I think for me it’s about showing range and versatility, and when the opportunity to join The Following came up, it was the first or second time I was given the opportunity to actually play a villain. I have played a lot of good guys, but it’s a nice change. It’s a really nice change of pace. I don’t know if I prefer it so much as I just enjoy being able to go back and forth.”

The actor told the site that he found identifying with Theo challenging at times. “I think the challenge was to try and understand the character. Previous characters that I’ve played I've always been able to identify with some element, if not most of the elements of the character, not only because they’re good guys but because of whatever it is that they’re searching for in life.

Exclusive: Omar Metwally Talks DIG

Omar MetwallyTonight USA airs its fourth episode of the series DIG. Omar Metwally (Non-stop, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2) plays the character of Yuseff Khalid, an American who disappeared to Israel after being accused of murder. It was recently revealed that the fugitive was working with the US Ambassador to Israel, Ruth Ridell (Regina Taylor), to find, and steal if need be, the gemstones for the high-priest's breast plate.

Earlier in the week, the actor talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about his work on the series.

Metwally became involved in DIG originally because of one of the series creators. "I actually got involved because of Gideon Raff. Basically he and I had met; I had auditioned for a different project that he had been working on, and that didn't end up working out, but I've sort of stayed on his mind. And when this project started up, it was the perfect opportunity for us to finally work together."

There was more than one thing that originally attracted the actor to the role. "I took the role for a couple reasons. One was that I really wanted to work with Gideon, and the second reason was that I read the script, and at first I wasn't sure, because in the pilot, so little is revealed about this character and what his role is going to be in the series, but after talking with Tim [Kring] and Gideon, they both assured me that it's a role that's going to go to some interesting places, and they were right about that."
