Neil Napier & Steven Maeda Talk Helix Season 2

HelixThis Friday Syfy premieres season two of Helix. The season brings a lot of changes, from setting, to tone, even new characters. Star Neil Napier, who plays Peter Farragut, and executive producer Steven Maeda talked to the digital media earlier in the week about what fans can expect in season two.

Maeda talked to SciFi Vision about the characters meeting up again during the season. “To say that everybody will be meeting up at some point, it will definitely happen before the end of the season, and, you know, the challenge for us was trying to keep the storyline both moving ahead in a way that was hopefully satisfying and is kind of an interesting thing to watch, even though we’re watching both storylines from the same episodes going kind of different directions.

“But yes, we are definitely planning on bringing everything all together, and I think that the reunions be they happy or sad, are going to be very rewarding when they finally start happening.”

Advance Review: Helix Returns with More Chilling Mysteries

HelixHelix returns to Syfy for a second season of 13 episodes, starting on Friday. The show picks up about fifteen months after the events in season one. The team investigates a completely new deadly viral outbreak, this time on a cruise ship, which leads them to a mysterious island. The inhabitants of the island, members of a strange cult, however, are less than happy to see them.

The series doesn't drop the Narvik storyline, but it does focus more on the new virus. The storytelling and tone seem quite a bit different than last season, as of the first episode, in my opinion. I felt it focused on what is going on with the people on the island as much as it did the virus. Not that this is a bad thing in any way; it just feels different. It's also much different that the characters are out in the open, but as they are on an island, it does still have that great feeling of isolation and also claustrophobia. I found the episode to be very creepy and am really excited to find out more about the mysteries surrounding the cult.

Advance Review: 12 Monkeys - A Mind-Blowing & Wild Ride

12 MonkeysFriday Syfy premieres its new drama 12 Monkeys. The series is based on the film of the same name, and although the overarching plot comes from the film, the result is rather unique and definitely stands on it's own. The pilot sets up the series, and does take a bit from the film, but then it branches off.

The series follows Cole (Aaron Stanford), who is sent back in time by a group of scientists to stop a virus that kills most of humanity. Cole travels back and forward in time to try to save the world. He is helped in his past (2015), where the main part of the story takes place, by Dr. Cassandra Railley (Amanda Schull). The two follow clues to try to figure out what started the deadly chain of events.

Meanwhile in 2043 the scientists, led by Jones (Barbara Sukowa), comb through clues that Cole reveals, while also dealing with their own bleak reality.

Aaron Stanford & Amanda Schull Star in 12 Monkeys, Premiering 1/16

12 MonkeysFriday Syfy premieres its new drama, 12 Monkeys. The series is based on the idea from the film of the same name and follows James Cole, played by Aaron Stanford, who comes from a future in which a virus has wiped out most of humanity. He travels back in time and with the help of virologist Dr. Cassandra Railly, played by Amanda Schull, tries to stop the Army of the 12 Monkeys from releasing the virus.

Recently the two stars talked to the digital media about the new series, which premieres Friday on Syfy.

According to the actors, the series is different from the film in many ways, but there were some things they pulled from the movie for their characters. Stanford told SciFi Vision, “For me, you know, it was a really interesting role for Bruce Willis, what he did with it. He’s generally remembered for really his action roles, just remember the John McClane, and he really brought this child-like innocence to the role in 12 Monkeys, and it was expressed in his experience of our presence, you know, of our roles. This was a man coming [from an] unimaginably unpleasant, difficult place, where all of the pleasures, comforts, and everything, art, it was all taken – stripped away from him.
