DVD Review: The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season - Out Now on Blu-ray, DVD, & Digital HD

The Walking DeadSeason five of The Walking Dead follows Rick (Andrew Lincoln)'s group as they continue to fight for survival. The series picks up where last season left off: Beth (Emily Kinney) has been kidnapped, and the rest of the group, except Carol (Melissa McBride), Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman), and baby Judith, has been locked in the boxcar at Terminus, where they soon learn that Terminus is no sanctuary, but made up of murderous cannibals. Carol may be their only hope.

The first part of the season also introduces the character of Father Gabriel (Seth Gabriel) who joins the group on their journey.

The next part of the story focuses on Beth's rescue, during which the group splits as Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) agree to follow Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), and Rosita (Christian Serratos) to D.C.

All season the Quad has been on the verge of war and there are those that are part of the resistance against the company. Tonight things come to a head when some deaths on Leith cause a chain of events that may greatly affect Westerley and force the killjoys to finally have to choose a side. Could this be what Khlyen (Rob Stewart) meant was coming?

DVD Review: True Story - Out Now

True StoryTrue Story is a psychological thriller based on the real-life memoir of the same name by Michael Finkel. Jonah Hill stars at the lead character. A journalist for The New York Times, his career is as good as over when he embellishes and partly fabricates a story that's printed as the cover piece. After losing his job, no one will hire him.

Back at home with his wife Jill (Felicity Jones), Finkel gets an unexpected call from a reporter, asking for his opinion on a man, Christian Longo (James Franco), who murdered his family, and when arrested claimed to be Finkel. Unaware of what has transpired, Finkel is intrigued and sets up a meeting with Longo in prison.

Advance Review: Defiance 3.09 Ostinato in White

DefianceTonight on Defiance, Nolan (Grant Bowler) and Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas) hunt for who or what is responsible for a gruesome murder, of which the victim may have surprising connections to another character. Meanwhile Stahma (Jaime Murray) returns unwelcome to town while T'evgin (Conrad Coates) deals with problems in his own family.

Tonight's episode has quite a somber tone to it. I found myself tearing up at not only Nolan's speech to the grieving families, but also to Stahma being upset over Alak (Jesse Rath). The actors did a fantastic job tonight with pulling on your heart strings.

DVD Review: Witches of East End: The Complete Season 2

Witches of East EndThe television series Witches of East End is loosely based on the book of the same name by Melissa de la Cruz. The series follows a family of witches, the Beauchamps. The family is led by the powerful witch Joanna (Julia Ormond) who is mother of adult children, two girls, Freya (Jenna Dewan Tatum) and Ingrid (Rachel Boston), and a boy, Frederick (Christian Cooke). They also live with Joanna's sister, Wendy (Madchen Amick).

The family was originally royalty from Asgard, but after a war, the women were banished by Joanna's father, King Nikolaus (Steven Berkoff). They escaped through a portal that led them to earth.

The second season picks up from the cliffhanger from season one. The portal has been opened and someone came through. Joanna is still dying from Argentium poison given to her by Penelope (Virginia Madsen). Freya had broken off her engagement with Dash (Eric Winter) (Penelope's son), realizing she was truly in love with his brother, Killian (Daniel DiTomasso), who she thinks left town before she could tell him. In reality, Dash was angry and hit him with his newly acquired powers, and thought he killed him.

DVD Review: Ex Machina - A Unique and Unnerving Film That Can't Be Missed

Ex MachinaProgrammer Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) is at work when he wins a competition to spend a week with the company's CEO Nathan (Oscar Isaac) at his estate. Odd and reclusive, Nathan is a genius who has been working on a secret study of artificial intelligence and has chosen Caleb to be a part of an experiment. He is expected to evaluate a female android, Ava (Alicia Vikander), and decide if she has a consciousness, but things are not as black and white as he first is led to believe.

The film starts by plopping you right into the meat of the story with Caleb dropped into Nathan's world without much explanation of why other than he won a competition. He has no idea what's coming, and with only that lead up, it helps to make the audience feel as Caleb does. Caleb is not quick to trust the strange and obscenely rich man, who is very unnerving and suspicious at times, which makes you question everything, including even the basis of the test.
