SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Exclusive Interview: Anjana Vasan To Become Killing Eve’s Newest Assassin

***This interview contains spoilers for 4.03***

Anjana VasanIn last night’s episode of Killing Eve, Pam, played by Anjana Vasan talked to Hélène (Camille Corrin), eager to get away from her brother (Manpreet Bachu) and start working for her, but she told Pam she was not ready. Not happy and fed up with her brother, Pam murdered him thinking it would move the timeline forward, but it only served to anger Hélène for disobeying. However, Hélène approached Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) to start Pam’s training as an assassin.

According to Vasan, Pam is miserable and desperate to start working for Hélène, because she is offering something she didn’t think she could have. “I think there's an element of grooming involved with this story between Hélène and Pam, because…she's in a kind of a desperate situation,” Vasan told Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview. “I think what Hélène promises is something more extraordinary. Just Hélène, as herself, is so aspirational, and I think she kind of feeds slowly into Pam's idea that she can get out of this place…So, I think she's kind of seduced in a way by what Hélène is offering. And I think she assumes that people who look like Hélène, who are from where they are, from a much more privileged background, must be doing important work or worthy work, and there's a reason for why they do what they do, because they're rich, expensive looking important people. So, she's very naive in that sense, but that's why she's easily influenced and molded potentially into something more dangerous.”

Exclusive Interview: The Walking Dead’s Josh Hamilton on Hornsby’s True Motivations

***The following interview contains spoilers for 11.12***

Josh HamiltonIn tonight’s all-new episode of The Walking Dead, Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) and Lance Hornsby, played by Josh Hamilton, toured Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside. Hornsby wants to bring the communities into the fold, but it’s clear to Milton it’s because he wants to run them and the power that comes with it.

Recently, Hamilton spoke with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about Hornsby’s motivations. According to the actor, Hornsby does believe what he’s saying, but it’s twofold. “I think that he really does believe sincerely in the mission of the Commonwealth,” said Hamilton, “which is trying to recreate as much of the world as possible and expand [that] vision and provide safety and community and options and [be] not just scraping by. On the other hand, I think he is a politician and sort of says different things to different people, depending on what he thinks they might want or need to hear.” The actor added that Hornsby is also after Milton’s acceptance, though he may not be aware of it.

Viewers see from tonight’s episode that Hornsby is willing to go far to get what he wants. “I think [he’s] constantly weighing the pros and cons of any given situation,” said Hamilton, “but in terms of, what is going to provide the greater good. Not everyone can win all the time, certainly not in society that is as class oriented and capitalistic as the Commonwealth. So, I think every situation is a balancing act for him, as it is for anyone who's in a position to make decisions.”

Interview: Shining Vale's Gus Birney & Dylan Gage

Gus Birney and Dylan GageRecently, Starz premiered the horror comedy, Shining Vale. The series follows a dysfunctional family that moves into a house where horrific events have taken place. Struggling author Pat, the mother of the family, is either depressed or possessed - as both have the same symptoms – and is visited by a ghost named Rosemary (Mira Sorvino). Pat’s husband, Terry, is played by Greg Kinnear.

Pat and Terry have two teenage children, Gaynor, played by Gus Birney, and Jake, played by Dylan Gage. The two talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable about the parts of the characters that they had more difficulty connecting with. For Birney, it was Gaynor’s confidence. “Her tool is her sexuality,” said the actress, “She's had this long history with guys and relationships, and that's the area of her life that she feels more confident. I'm twenty-two, and I still [am] completely not like that. So, I think it was tapping into that, honestly.”

The actress added that the costumes and makeup helped with it. “[W]e worked on developing this look and this character that has a very distinct persona. So, I think that really helped me, but [it was] definitely challenging to to step into that comfort with all of that.”

Exclusive: Sonita Henry Talks The Chelsea Detective, Now Streaming on Acorn TV

Sonita HenryToday the all-new British mystery series The Chelsea Detective comes to Acorn TV. The series follows DI Max Arnold (Adrian Scarborough) and DS Priya Shamsie (Sonita Henry) as they solve crimes and bring justice to the borough of Chelsea.

Recently, Sonita Henry caught up with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision for an exclusive interview to talk about the role.

One of the things Henry loved from the beginning is that the personal lives of the characters are an integral part of The Chelsea Detective. She thinks she is very similar to Priya, and also
could really relate to the point Priya was at in her life. “At the time I auditioned for the show,” said Henry, “she's now five, but I had a four-year-old daughter. So, I completely related to Priya’s fear of being a new mother, and that doesn't always get talked about it. I feel like it's the societal norm that women are expected to just fall into the role of motherhood, and it should all come naturally, that we're all these born carers and caretakers, and it doesn't happen that way. You have to learn it. You have to work at it, and I love that Priya is working at it.”

Interview: Outlander Stars Sam Heughan & Caitriona Balfe Talk Season 6

***The following interview contains spoilers for 6.01***

OutlanderOutlander
, based on the best-selling international book series by Diana Gabaldon’s, returned tonight for season six. At the start of the season, Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones), Jamie (Sam Heughan)’s old rival from Ardsmuir, arrives on the Fraser Ridge with his family and a group of fellow Protestants, much to Jamie’s dismay. Meanwhile, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) struggles to cope with her previous trauma.

After playing the characters for so many years, it’s natural that there may be some overlap, according to star Caitriona Balfe. “I think,” said Balfe to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision as part of a roundtable interview, “obviously, Sam and I were cast, because we have something within us that mirrors or speaks to these characters. So, I think if there is any overlap, that's probably just whatever [is] naturally within us.”

The actress also said that, however, as a period piece with science fiction elements, there isn’t a lot to bring into their everyday life.

***The following interview contains major spoilers for tonight's episode 11.11***

Josh McDermittOn tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead, Eugene (Josh McDermitt) finally got his moment of happiness and was all in with his relationship with Stephanie (Chelle Ramos), even telling her he loved her, but everything fell apart when she disappeared. After spending all his energy looking for her, a bombshell was dropped with the reveal and Eugene’s realization that not only was Stephanie not really missing, but she was an imposter pretending to be the woman he talked to on the radio in order to get information on his community. A second shocker came when Max (Margot Bingham) told him that she was actually the one he talked to.

Last week, McDermitt talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about the episode and what’s to come on the series.

According to McDermitt, Eugene had blinders on. “He was in love and was able to overlook things,” said the actor, adding that the decoy Stephanie did a great job at fooling him. “He just didn't see it. He got comfortable, and I think we've seen that it's very dangerous to be in this world and let your guard down, and he certainly did. I guess we're going to see coming up how catastrophic that decision was.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Transplant’s Haq & Hannah on Leadership Changes & Possible Romance

***Note that this interview does contain slight spoilers, but they have already been revealed in promo videos. If you want to stay 100% spoiler-free please wait to read it until after the premiere airs!***

Hamza Haq and John HannahTonight NBC premieres the second season of its medical drama Transplant. The season marks many changes for all of the characters at York Hospital. At the end of last season, Dr. Jed Bishop (John Hannah) suffered a stroke, and being out of commission really changes things at the hospital without the trauma team’s leader on duty. Him being gone is a scary thing for Dr. Bashir Hamed, according to the actor who plays him, Hamza Haq. “[T]his man who’s been a pillar in his stability in the hospital…he's also his lifesaver,” said Haq during a recent exclusive video interview with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision. “He's the one who protects him from all of the the politics and the bureaucracy of the reality of his life, which is that he doesn't have access to his medical transcripts, and if Bishop is no longer there to protect him and to help him through that and navigate the requirements that the Canadian medical system has, it's curtains for Bashir as well. There's this dependence on Bishop. He hired all of us…and everybody is affected by the potential of him not making it through this medical episode.”

Interview: Shining Vale's Mira Sorvino on Playing a Ghost from the 50s

Mira SorvinoNext Sunday, STARZ premieres it’s all-new horror comedy Shining Vale, which centers around a family that moves from the city to a house in a small town where terrible things have happened, but they are only seen by author Pat (Courtney Cox). Actress Mira Sorvino plays the role of Rosemary, a ghost in the house who died in the 50s.

The actress looked to film and television from that decade as inspiration. “I watched The Donna Reed Show [and also Ozzie and Harriet], and I was really sort of horrified by just the role of what motherhood and wifehood and womanhood was supposed to be like,” Sorvino told Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable interview. “It really rang so false to me. It didn't have any real humanity. It was all about being for show, having the best social schedule, going to five dinner parties a week and making the perfect casserole and just everything, you know, being in the gossip train. I said, ‘Oh my gosh, this doesn't relate; I don't relate to this way of life at all.’ But that is sort of what Rosemary was trying to fit into.

“Then…I think I rewatched The Postman Always Rings Twice, and just the grand beauty of the sultry screen heroines, and [I] watched a few more noir movies with these fabulous women in them, and I was like, ‘Okay, so she wants to be a little bit more fabulous, a little bit more dangerous.’ Even though she wants to be a success at the social calendar, she wants to throw the best parties. She wants to dance in the cotillion, but underneath it all, she's longing for something more, something real, something fulfilling and true and honoring and that she matters.
