SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Video Interview: Halo's Natascha McElhone & Olive Gray

Natascha McElhone & Olive GrayRecently, to promote the new series Halo, SciFi Vision took part in a roundtable interview with some of the cast, including stars Natascha McElhone, who plays Dr. Catherine Halsey, and Olive Gray, who plays her daughter, Miranda Keyes. Both of the actresses had known about the Halo franchise long before taking on the role. “I was first introduced to it twenty years ago,” said McElhone to SciFi Vision, “my husband used to play it…but since then, my sons have also played it.”

Gray was first introduced to it through friends. “I was familiar with the game,” the performer told the site. “All of my friends were deeply intrigued entrenched in everything Halo, while I was a kind of teenager and just entering into my twenties. So, yeah, I was super aware of the game…and I know quite a bit about it via my friends.”

McElhone also talked with the site a bit about the fan base and how so many different types of people play the game. “It's got its diehard fans. It's been in competition in the last twenty years with lots of other games that have come onto platforms, but I am impressed with it staying power and the fact that it has such a devoted following. Then, it's a following of different generations, but it's not just the something that only existed for a couple of years and the scholar fan bases…It's quite a heterogeneous bunch who play it, which I like. It feels representative of the population.”

Exclusive Video Interview: Outer Range's Lili Taylor on Connecting with Cecilia

Lili TaylorThe new series Outer Range drops today on Prime Video. The series follows the family of Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), who while fighting for his land and family finds a mystery on his ranch that changes everything. Lili Taylor, who stars as Royal’s wife, Cecilia, spoke with SciFi Vision recently in an exclusive interview.

The actress found the ease with which the character dealt with situations logically the easiest to connect to but found other parts of her more difficult to relate to. “I think that being a woman in a man's world was a little bit more of a stretch for me, the limitations, the realities of her being a rancher out there, [and] what she comes up against,” said Taylor.

Interview: Debnam-Carey, Nisenson, & Abtahi Talk Breaking Points with Strand in Fear the Walking Dead

Fear the Walking DeadTonight, Fear the Walking Dead returns with all-new episodes to AMC and AMC+ for the back half of season seven. During a recent roundtable to promote the series, SciFi Vision talked to cast members about their characters’ interactions with Strand (Colman Domingo) and where their breaking point with him lies.

We asked Alycia Debnam-Carey if it’s possible for Alicia and Strand to coexist and if she could ever trust him again. The actress talked about their unique dynamic. “The two of them have really both known each other the longest in this journey,” said the actress. “I think one of the unique characteristics is that Alicia has seen Strand for who he is at the very beginning before everything started and knew he was a con man to begin with, knew that he had that kind of manipulation aspect to him, that he's someone who will do anything to win and survive. That's one of the reasons why he's been able to go so long.”

Apple TV+ calls the stories “darkly comic feminist fables,” which perfectly describes episode eight, “The Woman Who Was Fed by a Duck.” Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie) stars as Elisa, a single woman who spends most days sitting beside a duck pond, studying for her med school entrance exam. She’s stuck in a bit of a rut until she meets a talking duck who might (or might not) be just what she’s looking for.

Exclusive Video Interview: Brian Watkins on Creating Outer Range & Blending Genres

Brian WatkinsBlending a western saga with a supernatural mystery, Outer Range, which premieres today on Prime Video, tells the story of Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) and his family as they struggle to keep their land. Things become much more complicated when Royal finds a mysterious void on his ranch and events begin to unfold.

Containing elements of drama, humor, westerns, and science fiction, creator Brian Watkins, who recently spoke with SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, said that it’s the emotional aspect of the series that joins everything together. “I feel like the sci-fi in the show we always try to tell people is meant to be not extraterrestrial, but terrestrial, very kind of, of the earth,” said Watkins. “In that way,” he continued, “I think the blending of it only blends when we're feeling something about the characters, and hopefully, those are things that we can relate to.

Exclusive Video Interview: Taskmaster's Greg Davies & Alex Horne

Greg Davies and Alex HorneRecently, it became a lot easier in the US to stream all things Taskmaster, when at the beginning of the month, Taskmaster Supermax+ streaming service became available. Today the first episode of season nine of the series drops, soon to be followed by the rollout of subsequent seasons, as well as international versions. Having their own streaming service rather than being hosted allowed more control, according to creator and star Alex Horne, who spoke with SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview last week. “Everything's going to be in one place,” said Horne, “no adverts, and all the ones from around the world. So, it's all there, and it just means that we're in control of it. They will still go up on YouTube for free, but it just seems like this way, we don't have to bother with any other middleman.”

Chicago MedSciFi Vision has been making the rounds at Chicago Med and had the chance to speak with series regulars Marlyne Barrett and Oliver Platt, who costar as two hospital veterans: charge nurse Maggie Campbell and Dr. Daniel Charles, head of psychiatry.

Both characters often act as teachers and mentors to their younger colleagues, but they come at it from different angles. We love watching Dr. Charles work with resident Vanessa Taylor, and we asked Platt about their working relationship.

Interview: Hugh Laurie, Will Poulter, & Lucy Boynton Talk Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?

Why Didn't They Ask Evans?Today Britbox released the miniseries Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? The story follows Bobby Jones (Will Poulter) and Lady Frankie Derwent (Lucy Boynton) who become amateur sleuths looking to solve a murder and find the meaning behind the victim’s mysterious last words. The three-episode series is based on the Agatha Christie mystery, with a script by Hugh Laurie, who also directs and executive produces, as well as plays the role of Dr. James Nicholson.

Last week, SciFi Vision talked to Laurie during a press conference with the three performers to promote the adaptation about the difficulties choosing what parts to draw from the original vs adding his own ideas to the story. “That's a tricky one,” said Laurie. “I suppose you just have a sort of instinct that, oh, no, that's not going to work here. Something else needs to happen. We need some other ingredient here that you can't really explain why it is; you just feel it. Sometimes I feel when writing I am sort of partially acting as a reader, just reading rather than writing, and when acting, I feel like I'm watching as much as acting…As a reader, or as a viewer, you just get a sense of, I need something different to happen here. I need some surprise, or I need some alteration of energy or pace or something. And as far as I know, there's no great theory to it. Or if there is, I didn't know what the theory is…I think it's just a sort of an instinct…just sort of a rhythmic thing.”
