Advance Review: Sleepy Hollow Season 2

Sleepy HollowTomorrow FOX's hit series Sleepy Hollow returns for season two with all new episodes. The supernatural series is a reimagining of the legend and follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) after he is awakened after being buried for two and one half centuries. He and Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) must work together to stop the Headless Horseman and the apocalypse, all while he continues to acclimate himself to the modern world.

Season two picks up where season one left off, with Crane buried alive by Henry Parish (John Noble) who he recently discovered was not only the Horseman of War, but also his son, and Mills stuck in purgatory.

Things are not as they seem, and they must work together to stop the end of days as well as try to save Crane's wife, Katrina (Katia Winter), who has been kidnapped by the Headless Horseman.

To make matters worse, the one person who believed them at the police department department, Captain Frank Irving (Orlando Jones), is headed off to prison after pleading guilty for a murder he didn't commit.

Sleepy HollowI really enjoyed the beginning of season two. Crane and Abbie are right back in the fray of trying to stop Moloch from entering their world.

The visuals are, as last season, some of the best around, in my opinion. The town of Sleepy Hollow is always a character unto itself, but they also revisit purgatory, and it is completely eerie.

The other visuals are just as great, and the actual visage of Moloch seems to be a bit clearer this year.

Sleepy HollowIt's hard to say much storywise without giving anything away, but I really like where it's going and the plans the characters make. The story continues to move forward at a quick pace and the flow feels natural. As last year, the script is great as well, and I still really enjoy Crane's continued surprises at the modern world.

The way that the writers intersperse real history with Crane's backstory of what could have really happened is another thing that I continue to love about this show.

Mison and Beharie have great chemistry with each other and it plays so well onscreen. Lyndie Greenwood brings a badass Jenny again this year, and as always, John Noble is a quick standout.

If the beginning is anything to go by, season two of Sleepy Hollow is going to turn out to be even better than the first.
