Early Review: Being Human - Better than Ever

By Jamie Ruby

Being HumanBeing Human
, which premieres tomorrow on Syfy, is really stepping it up this year. Things are quite different for all of the main characters: after being bitten by Liam (Xander Berkeley), Josh (Sammy Huntington) is stuck as a werewolf, which everyone, including his wife Nora (Kristen Hager), has to deal with. Sally (Meaghan Rath) has been taken through Donna (Amy Aquino)'s death spot and now retains some kind of link with her which will lead to interesting events. Meanwhile, Aidan (Sam Witwer) has problems of his own as he deals with his evolving relationship with Kat (Deanna Russo) while those from his past come back into his life.

Being HumanThe first two episodes of the season were very tense - there's a lot going on. I think the show has done a great job of keeping up that feeling of tension in the first two, especially with Josh's storyline as he and Nora struggle with the little time they have. You can really see the strong relationship between the two of them. I'm not sure all women would stick by their husband in this instance.

I also think bringing Sally in with a potential way to fix Josh's problem was a smart idea, and the fact that she doesn't really know what she is doing adds to that tension. Also I want to know more about the weird stuff she is seeing and am curious how those things might play into their own lives. I also really enjoyed Rath's scenes with Aquino. As much as Donna is not a "nice" character, I enjoy her sarcasm.

Being HumanI think Aidan's story really kicks off with the return of Suzanna, which obviously complicates things. At the end of last season I wasn't really sure what their plan was, but I like the way they have dealt with it. I assumed that she would become more of a threat, but I like that so far she has sort of backed off because of what has happened in the past. Also I'm excited for the storyline with the other vampires and where it's obviously leading, once Aidan realizes who is back. I can see, especially with Aidan's story, how some of the older story threads will be coming back to the forefront. If you have read about some of the upcoming guest stars, it looks like there are still more surprises on the way.

I have to say I was surprised at the climax to Josh's storyline when Aidan and Nora are left to figure things out, and I'm curious to see what kind of lasting effects what they did will have on him, and if he will tell anyone.

Season four of Being Human looks to be the best yet, and I can't wait to see what's next.
