Some Guy Who Kills PeopleWhen I first received the DVD to review, I wasn't sure what to think with it's title, but don't let that deter you. In retrospect, the title actually fits the mood of the film.

Some Guy Who Kills People
is partially a horror movie - it does have murder and blood and guts - but it's also a great character driven story. The star of the film is Kevin Corrigan, who plays the character of Ken Boyd. Boyd is 34 and still living at home with his mother (Karen Black), working as an ice cream parlor attendant. Boyd is very quiet and withdrawn - he's returned from a mental institution after severe mental trauma from being beaten and tortured by a group of high school kids. He releases tension by his comic art, where he can live out his dark fantasies of revenge.

Hell on WheelsAMC's Hell on Wheels takes place in the traveling town of Hell on Wheels after the Civil War, during the Union Pacific's construction of the first transcontinental railroad. The show follows former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon, who is out for revenge to find the Union soldier who killed his wife.

The series does a great job of chronicling the way of life after the civil war. It feels true to life and does not shy away from atrocities like the treatment of the newly emancipated African-Americans, or the whore houses and the way women in general were treated at the time, or the brutality of the Indians and what our nation took from them. It really pulls you into the time period and makes you feel like you have been transported there.

It's easy to see that a lot of research was done and care was taken to get the gritty look of the show, from the fully constructed town to the blood and dirt caked wardrobe. If you like historical features, that is one thing the series brings to the table in spades. Hell on Wheels tries to stay true to the events and conditions of the time. The scale of everything feels like a mini movie from week to week.

Teen WolfThe Story

When I originally heard that MTV was remaking Teen Wolf, I didn't know what to think. I was glad that the series would be a drama rather than a campy comedy like its predecessor; I don't think that would work very well with today's teen audience.

When it comes to what I watch, I love science fiction, the supernatural, and all that goes with it, including werewolves. I was afraid, however, that created as a show for teens, it might not appeal to an older audience as well. I was glad to be wrong.

The series does have the teenage drama and angst, don't get me wrong, but I didn't feel that it catered only to teen fangirls. It isn't all sappy romance, but thankfully isn't either only about controlling the wolf. It has something for everybody.
