Surprisingly I don't actually have a lot to say about this one. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is certainly a unique book concept, but as a movie simply an exercise in the melodramatic. Rather, I should say a glorious exercise in the melodramatic. As another tid-bit of background about your reviewer, I love melodramas. I find them supremely entertaining, and even sometimes moving. This melodrama leads more towards the prior.

Without a doubt Prometheus is a prequel to Alien, but only in classification. See, the Alien series is interesting in that the franchise encompasses multiple genres. Alien was a horror movie set in space, Aliens through Alien Resurrection were action movies in space, the AVP movies were parodies that took themselves seriously with sci-fi back story, but Prometheus is a hard science fiction movie. That is to say, unlike its predecessors it was not meant to scare or to excite, it is meant to inspire thought. I'll tell you right now, if you're going to see it and expecting Aliens, you will be sorely disappointed or bored; however, that's not to say there's not monsters and death, just that those take a back seat. No, this film tries to ask the question, "How you would react if you met your god, and he or she wasn't what you expected?"

Oh come now, you knew it was mutant cannibals right from the preview, what you want to know is if these mutant cannibals are worth $10 a ticket. Before I talk about the movie though I should share another bit of relevant information about your reviewer's background; I don't like horror movies. Don't get me wrong, gore and scares aren't the problem. It is because most horror movies are very sparse on plot. Far too often I've seen the story in a horror flick boil down to "it's a ghost/vampire/werewolf/demon." Then there's a bunch of people who die followed by a coin toss whether the hero prevails over the evil with his newly acquired love interest or they die in the last scene. There are a few horror movies I like, my favorite of which is John Carpenter's The Thing, and even that can be argued to be more of a monster movie than a horror movie.

Battleship has been receiving a lot of guff from critics since even before it was released. A natural reaction for them I think, given that the previews make it look like the fourth Transformers movie. A series that has polarized movie viewers like none other I've seen. (Since it is partially relevant, and if it's important to you, I enjoy that series. Are they flawless, no, but they are more than enjoyable action flicks.) However, though Battleship may look like Transformers, it is not; it's Independence Day, another big time movie critic punching bag that I enjoy.

Every once in a long while a movie comes along that is of such quality that you feel the need to applaud when the credits roll; a movie that to share the details of which would feel like a crime, because you would be robbing the potential viewer of the amazement that could be had. Cabin in the Woods is one of those movies. Given the state of this movie, and my wish not to be criminal, what will be discussed hereafter will reveal no story from the movie that has not already been revealed in the trailers. Trust me; it is that sort of movie.
