SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Fringe 5.1 Review: "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11"

By John Keegan

Fringe-Glyphs-meu-anjo-17630623-160-160To say that this episode moves quickly is an understatement. Launching directly out of the end of “Letters of Transit”, the writers are clearly intent on telling an intricate and detailed final tale in the “Fringe” universe. Few shows are this ambitious, and it speaks to the dedication of everyone involved in the production of the show that this leap to the future actually works well as the final chapter to the narrative.

Last Resort 1.1 Review: "Captain"

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

Last-Resort-icon-last-resort-30861969-100-100Throughout the opening scenes of this first episode of "Last Resort", I kept wondering why networks don't do more submarine military dramas. Enclosed spaces, lots of pressure, real potential for drama. "Captain" hums along in the first half to show regular life on board a US nuclear submarine. Then it ramps up the drama and action and complications. There is a lot stuffed into this pilot episode, and there is a lot to chew on by the end.

Early Review: "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter"

Lake Placid: The Final ChapterLake Placid: The Final Chapter premieres tonight on Syfy. The fourth in the series follows Sheriff Theresa Giove (Elisabeth Rohm), along with Fish and Game representative Reba (Yancy Butler), and Lieutenant Loflin, as they as you expect try to stop the crocodiles from terrorizing everyone and ripping them to pieces (all without killing them of course), during which they search for the sheriff's daughter who went on a school trip that ended up at the lake.

Robert Englund: From "Nightmare on Elm Street" to "Lake Placid"

By Jamie Ruby

Robert EnglundEven if you don't recognize his face, you've probably seen Robert Englund before; he's probably most known for playing Freddy Krueger. Englund, however, quite the accomplished actor, has many credits to his name, from horror films such as The Mangler and Wishmaster, to other films such as Phantom of the Opera, to guest starring on television on shows such as Supernatural and Criminal Minds, and everything in between.

One of Englund's newest projects is the Syfy original movie Lake Placid: The Final Chapter. Englund plays the role of poacher Jim Bickerman, the last member of the Bickerman family. The fourth film in the series combines crocodiles and fun like only a Syfy Saturday film can.

Robert Englund recently talked to the press about the film, which premieres tonight on Syfy.

Dredd 3D: More Sparkles than a Strip Club

By Daniel Denehy

Dredd 3DMany people didn’t care for the 1995 comic book adaptation, Judge Dredd, starring Sylvester Stallone, but I for one did. It was the perfect partner piece to Stallone’s other “future cop” movie, Demolition Man. As such, when I heard of the new adaptation, Dredd 3D, I knew I was going to have to see how this new one stacked up. As a brief disclaimer, I only got to see the film in 2D, since I’ve never been a fan of the 3D fad. That being said, I will recommend that anyone going to see the film do so in its intended 3D, otherwise a lot of flying splatter will only be half enjoyed. Also, if that didn’t tip you off, this movie is very much rated R.

Early Review: Haven - "Stay"

HavenTonight's episode of Haven, "Stay," focuses on as Duke calls them, "large naked men," who have been attacking people and causing general havoc around the town. Although the episode is more standalone than last week's, we do get some insight into Duke's mindset with dealing with his Trouble/power, which I really enjoyed. The other big part of the episode that is relevant to the overall mythology of the series happens at the very end, with a big reveal of Audrey's future.

The episode also introduces Dr. Callahan, played by Bree Williamson, who I talked to earlier in the week. The psychiatrist has come to evaluate Audrey after her previous abduction, much to Audrey's annoyance. It seems; however, there is much more to her than Audrey realizes at first.
