SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Haven 4.3 Review: “Bad Blood”

By John Keegan

haven_iconMuch like the previous episode, this felt like the writers moving the story incrementally closer to Audrey/Lexie’s return to Haven, while filling the rest of the time with a “Trouble of the Week” episode. Granted, it reintroduced Duke’s “gift” to anyone who may have forgotten how it worked, and it continued to explore the psychological fallout of the continuance of the Troubles (and the meteor shower), but it still felt like the series was marking time until it could really let loose.

Agents of SHIELD 1.1 Review: “Pilot”

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

SHIELDiconA new show from Joss Whedon will always be a big deal, let alone a spin-off from one of the juggernauts of the superhero genre and one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Expectations are naturally high, but a show like “Agents of SHIELD” was never going to succeed if it tried its best to emulate The Avengers or Iron Man, and in the pilot episode, it wisely doesn’t try. Instead, the Whedon clan have set out to create a different kind of experience: low-key, episodic, grounded in ordinary characters struggling against extraordinary situations, whilst still having the hallmarks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sleepy Hollow 1.2 Review: “Blood Moon”

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

sleepyhollowiconWhile I was watching this episode, I wished that a series had the ability to skip over the second episode and move to the third or fourth episodes. It’s in those future episodes that a series is able to show what it can do. An episode like “Blood Moon” has to spend its time re-hashing the premise of the pilot episode because the writers are looking to get more viewers who didn’t necessarily catch the pilot on first run or even understand what they were setting up.

Emily Rose & Colin Ferguson Talk Haven

By Jamie Ruby

Emily Rose and Colin FergusonThis season of Syfy's Haven introduced some new characters, one being that of William, played by Colin Ferguson. It's not clear as of yet what he has in store for Audrey, played by Emily Rose, who is now essentially Lexi and has no memory of her previous life after having entered the barn at the end of last season. One thing is clear; however, William knows a lot about Audrey, and not everyone wants him to share that information with her.

Ferguson talked to SciFi Vision about what fans will learn about William moving forward, during a press conference with Rose and the digital media. "We are going to find that history about who William is and what their relationship was. How much history we can't really say, although I think I can't say that it's not going to be left completely up in the air. As the season...progresses, you find out sort of the problems and strengths of their relationship and you find out if it's going to be an addition or subtraction to the town. So that stuff definitely plays out.

Haven 4.2 Review: “Survivors”

By John Keegan

haven_iconIf the season premiere was fashioned in such a way that a lot of open questions were punted to future episodes, then this installment was a delaying tactic. While there were some interesting explorations of the new status quo all around the sidelines of the main story, the bulk of the episode was dedicated to a “Trouble of the Week” that wasn’t particularly engaging. And considering the anticipation level coming into this season, that is not a good reaction for the audience to have.
