SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Elyse Luray Hosts "Collection Intervention" on Syfy

By Christiane Elin

Elyse LuraySyfy’s new reality show programming takes a peek inside of the world of the collector with Collection Intervention. Host Elyse Luray, from the PBS series History Detectives and a former Christie's Auction House expert appraiser, helps collectors who are at a critical point with their collections. Elyse shared in more detail what we can expect from the new six-episode series during a press conference call.

This series isn’t exactly the next Hoarders. The collectors have a well-chosen, controlled collection of items. Elyse says the collectors on Collection Intervention aren’t at an unhealthy point with their collection but they are, “out of control either from a monetary or a space point of view.” Collection Intervention comes in and helps get collections in order. Elyse says, “What the show tries to do is to curate, streamline, and focus. So how do you display your collection? How do you curate your collection? How could you get rid of some of the things that don’t add to your collection and at the same time, not let it overtake your life?”

Alphas 2.4 Review: "When Push Comes to Shove"

By John Keegan

alphas_iconNina's been heading for a confrontation with her old team, and they might want to consider themselves thankful that it happened before Stanton Parish could direct her self-loathing towards a more destructive purpose. It would be all too easy for Nina to use her abilities to "recruit" other Alphas to Parish's cause.

Warehouse 13 4.4 Review: "There's Always a Downside"

By John Keegan

warehouse_13_iconI love how this season is becoming an exploration of "The Temptation of Artie". After three seasons of pounding away at the dangers of using artifacts, because there's always that titular downside, Artie finally found an end that justified the means. Using the astrolabe is going to have serious repercussions, and Artie is struggling with what that means.

Grimm: Writers Promise Answers in Season 2 Premiere

By Karen Moul

When we left Grimm back in the spring, Nick's world was going to hell. He had confessed his true identity to Juliet, who didn't take the news very well. But before she could have Nick committed, Juliet fell into in a Sleeping Beauty-like coma, courtesy of Adalind and her pretty kitty. As Monroe and Rosalee tried to find a cure, Hank was having his own personal breakdown after seeing Monroe transform into a blutbad.

If that was not enough to deal with, Nick's mom appeared out of nowhere and saved him from a Wesen assassin. Ordinarily that would be a good thing, unless your mom has been presumed dead for the last 18 years. So where did mama come from? What has she been up to for the last two decades? Was she watching over Nick or does she really just want the coins?

Scifi Vision recently spoke with series co-creators David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf. The pair were cagey but promised the answers will come fast and thick in the first few episodes of the new season.

"We’re not going to continue to tease people," promised Greenwalt. "Why is his mom back? That’s all going to be explained in the first episode. [Nick] wants his questions answered and quite a few of them will be answered."

True Blood 5.10 Review: "Gone, Gone, Gone"

By John Keegan

true_blood_iconThis season has been all over the map, so it's nice to see this episode focus on more of the plot elements that have worked (namely, the takeover of the Authority by the Sanguinistas). There's still a lot of the side stories that have been meandering since the start of the season, but it wasn't quite as irritating as it has been.

Lost Girl 2.17 Review: "The Girl Who Fae'd with Fire"

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

Lost-Girl-Season-2-thumbAfter a lot of ups and downs, "The Girl Who Fae'd With Fire" feels like the first episode in a while to cohesively bring together everything good about "Lost Girl" into the one episode and make it all work in a story. It's not the most stand-out instalment, but the healthy mix of character beats, plot movement and humour makes for one of the most straight-up entertaining episodes of the show in a long damn time.

Exclusive: Mark Lewis - "Paranormal Witness" is Back with Season Two

Exclusive Interview with Mark Lewis, Executive Producer of Paranormal Witness
Interview by Christiane Elin
Written by Christiane Elin

Paranormal WitnessParanormal Witness is back with a twelve episode second season on Syfy. Executive Producer, Mark Lewis, spoke with Christiane Elin of SciFi Vision about the new season.

The second season trumps the first season according to Lewis. The stories are more varied, higher octane, and more terrifying. Mark conceded they learned a lot from the first season and about storytelling and the way the show should look. He feels Paranormal Witness has gone from strength to strength.

Paranormal Witness producers spent time listening to the fans and social media and they were overwhelmed by the fan reaction. It was clear to see what the audience liked the most, and they are catering season two to exactly that.

Total Recall: Missing Mars

Total Recall PosterIt is impossible to talk about a remake without talking about the movie that it came from. For those unfamiliar, Total Recall was an Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick from the 90’s about a man who goes through a recreational mind-altering procedure and supposedly discovers that he’s really a spy. The original film left a question mark on that summary, never definitively stating what was reality. It was a good action flick for the time, had some creative ideas and thoughtful themes behind an otherwise 90’s action flick. If you liked Arnold’s other movies of the time, it was a must watch.

The Newsroom 1.6 Review: "Bullies"

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

newsroom_iconAfter physically injuring half the cast last time, “The Newsroom” subjects the rest to lashings of the mind. In addition to recycled dialogue, the reluctant, or inadvertent, therapy session has been a Sorkin staple, from Dan’s thera-dates on “Sports Night” to Adam Arkin’s sessions on “The West Wing”. Here, Will McAvoy winds up in the chair, while Sloan Sabbith finds out how badly things can get lost in translation. Unfortunately, it’s Will, not the sage Bill Murray, whispering advice in her ear.
